Foot in mouth

Have you ever said or done something that made you feel like a total jackass? I for one feel that I am only blessed with this happening on rare occassions because I am not very social so I don't get the opportunity to do make such an error.

In fact me saying something incredibly stupid and insensitive would probably only happen on NS. :p

So how about it? Anything you wish to confess?

well, with me it happens all to often. However, with the frequency of the happenings, it hasn't tarnished my good reputation but has only bettered it.

Yes, one time a guy ran into me, like it was a very hard bump. So I turned around and said "Open your eyes and watch were you are going" Thats when I realized he was blind. I felt so bad for saying that, I wound up buying him lunch.

I wasn't referring to online. I was referring to the real world where my reputation actually means something.

Why are you always coming at me with such negativity, I feel the negative vibes.

Is it due to my own opinions on certain issues?

To be quite honest, I am not here to make friends. I'll probably never meet anyone from here so I do kind of care what people think of me but not nearly as much as I care in the real world. I've worked hard for having a good rep that I do and I intend to keep it.

Yes, I agree I do have a tendency of running at the mouth but I don't feel that it's out of control and also I do have the right to my own opinions and freedom of speeches (as long as I remain within the One Stop Rules, which I do feel that I'm with in)

I know you all are heretics and do not believe in the true god, that's why you cannot understand.
And like the pope I'm sorry you do not understand what I mean.

First, calling people heretics is not a good way to help them. It may be true, but remeber that you are the heretic in their eyes. And I am guilty of calling people heretics as well. Just try not to enflame them; I know it's hard.

Second, post more. You'll find God uses it to embolden you.

I wasn't referring to online. I was referring to the real world where my reputation actually means something. It was ambiguous, as you are posting on an online forum. I suppose I misinterpreted then.

Why are you always coming at me with such negativity, I feel the negative vibes.

Is it due to my own opinions on certain issues? You're mistaking me coming at your opinions for me coming at you. If your opinions were of a kind that wouldn't make me want to slap my forehead for being exposed to what seems like sheer ignorance to me, I would probably react more positively towards them.

To be quite honest, I am not here to make friends. I'll probably never meet anyone from here so I do kind of care what people think of me but not nearly as much as I care in the real world. I've worked hard for having a good rep that I do and I intend to keep it.To each his own. I may not have the same kind of reputation that you have in RL, but I do work hard on maintaining it. I can understand you in that manner.

"A human's word is foolishness to God!"
"Well in that case why don't you piss off and let us listen to Him properly, then, instead of ruining my day with your very loud, hypocritical statements?"
"SINNER!"
"And you need an ASBO for your conduct, if I did that in a council estate with a hoodie on, I'd be down the station pretty sharpish."

Once I was just leaving school to go home and was saying bye to someone. I ended up saying: "See ya tommorrow", then casually: "...unless you die." A second later I realised what I just said and we burst out laughing.

Also, why do people with some sort of deformity walk past just as I'm saying something like: "Urgh, that's horrible!". This has happened too many times to be coincidental; they must be creeping up on me then walking past looking appaulled and offended just to make me feel nauseating guilt.

1) That has nothing to do with this thread.
2) You misspelled his name. Unless the K was intentional, and why would it be? Even if the K was intentional that means you misspelled your misspelling of it.
3) Capitalization is your friend.

Why do they even need labels at all?

It's much easier to say "I'm a Christian." And automatically your brain says "Oh, he must believe this, this, and this."

"And on top of that I'm Presbyterian," I say.

"Oh, so that means that not only does he believe the things for Christianity, but he also believes these other things that are more specific."

But when labels begin to mean two different things, we begin to fight over who is correct in using the label, and the label becomes pointless, because you have to say "I believe in A, B, and C" anyway.

Umm...I think you just explained why labels are always bad....

No. I explained why labels should be exclusive. I don't understand why you would want the label to be changed anyway. Why would you want to change what Christian means, if you hate it? Why don't you use Jesusite? If Christian has a bad connotation (sp?) create something new with the connotation you want.

But that's the problem with labels. They generate connoatations that are just assumptions about individuals. They're much more harmful than you seem to imagine.

I think you'd be better off asking me for the times I haven't committed foot-in-mouth.

Just recently I asked my students to write about their summer break. I teach ESOL to young kids, so gave them guided writing - a list of questions to answer.
One of them was, "What's the best thing to happen to you this Summer?", and of course the next question was what's the worst?
I was expecting the usual - "fell off my bike", "got beaten up by my brother" etc etc.
One kid answered, "The death of my father".

whoops. note to self: never assume that you're always going to get nice replies from students and never ask questions that you may not like the answers to.

Poignantly, he replied to the final question, "What will you miss about Summer?", with "spending time with my daddy".

I am so happy we ran out of time in that lesson, cause I was planning on having each student get up and read out their answers. That would have been a huge foot-in-mouth.

Have you ever said or done something that made you feel like a total jackass?Happens all the time. Recently I lost track of exactly what I was saying, while attempting to compliment my lover. The lesson I learned is that comparing your lover to a sausage isn't a terribly great idea.

While speaking to a friend, I apparently something something less than charming about her origins. She confronted a mutual friend about it, who told her to confront me about it. Normally sound advice, but she decided to confront me while I was utterly shitfaced, so in my usual only-funny-in-my-own-head humour, I told her to "Just fucking die already, ****!".
On the bright side, I probably won't have to worry about birthday presents ever again. Also, why do people with some sort of deformity walk past just as I'm saying something like: "Urgh, that's horrible!". This has happened too many times to be coincidental; they must be creeping up on me then walking past looking appaulled and offended just to make me feel nauseating guilt. For some reason, "spastic" keeps popping up in my vocabulary, and when it does, actual spastics always appear in the vicinity.

Since it virtually never fails, I first assumed that I somehow spotted the spastic & that in turn made me use the word. After several years & hundreds of mortally insulted spastics (and random bystanders), I have come to the conclusion that some sort of spastic-cabal must be stalking me. There simply aren't enough spastics, on average, for any other explanation.

I'm both abrupt & somewhat vulgar, so things comming out wrong, or me unintentionally offending people happens on a regular basis. Including on here, I think. I called someone's argument bullshit the other day, and got called an ass in return. At least, I think that was the reason. PRetty good example of how the wording of my criticism of someone's drivel got misunderstood as a personal insult I think.
