Hobbies gone bad

Not bad

Sometimes a person's hobbies and interests can overwhelm other parts her life and become an obsession as can be illustrated HERE (http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h33/reflog_2006/BikeHouse.jpg)

Do you know anyone whose life has been overtaken by their hobby?

Why do you suppose they allowed it to happen?

A life of obsession is one free from the illusion that anything else matters.

"Holy mother of God!!!111ONEONEONE!!"
"Well, she's old enough."

How long did it take this guy to get that many? I don't think anyone got hurt, though. That's what makes it better than my fanfictions. Those words killed the very people who read them through pain and agony.

Good point but most people, even obsessive ones claim to prefer a changing scenery of illusion. A movie rather than a photograph if you will.

I don't really see how any of us generalites can critizise others obsessions considering our sad state of being;)

I think when you quit your job so you can have more time for your hobby, that is when you cross that line from hobby to obession.

I started acting as a hobby. I'm now willing to throw basically everything in my life away to make it a career. People are like, "If I had your brains, I'd go to medical school." But I hate the idea of being a doctor. What if I killed someone? But now everyone thinks I'm crazy. Is it crazy to want to be an actor? Probably.

Can turn out allright. Terry Pratchett for instance quitted his day job to become a fulltime writer and has done quite well for himself...

Mein Gott! I wonder how many there are?

My Aunt & Uncle are trainspotters. Their house is full model trains, posters, maps, memorabilia, etc. They spend all their holidays travelling around the UK on trains. Their weekends revolve around going to train museums, restored steam lines, etc. They're a bit scary.

My ex is obsessed with photography. Just way too obsessed.

He's going to a really hard art school in the Bay Area and is apparently trying to do six years of school in four years' time. This last May, about a year after he graduated from high school, he claimed he was already working at the Junior level (third year). His work ethic is rock hard.

It's really paying off though, and his photography is perhaps better than it was when I was still with him (although at the time I wouldn't have thought it possible). This would be great and all, except for the fact that it was a huge fucking wedge that drove us apart while the relationship was still in its youth. And fuck knows how his friendships are holding up. I almost feel sorry for him... Key word being "almost".

Oh, and my grandma loves cows, and collects cow stuff. I wouldn't call it an obsession though.

Wow, that backyard is composed almost entirely of bicycles... interesting.

If they sold all those bikes, even for only $50 each on average they could buy some grass. :D
