Ya know... BOTH sides are being idiotic about this. The US should have never done that (and I could imagine the scene should Sec of State Rice be subjected to the same treatment in some country), but Chavez is spoiling for a fight somehow...

why did they detain him anyway?

I think this sounds a tad like when I was detained in the U.S….of course that was because of a flight delay and I spent the time at the airport but it was horrible none the less…I can still here the ambient music! (so I’m saying that the alleged threats of police him are bullshit and that he just had a security check that he made ever so longer by being a dick)

he is a diplomat who was at the UN. its extremely poor form to harass someone like that, as evidenced by the apology.
