Balls to it, the world is out to hurt me. These two staple foods of my UK Transport Geek lifestyle have been given a proverbial kick to the groin. By Andre The Giant. When he was pissed.

I hope the Maglev program isnt stopped completely, they're saying it was down to human error, which is true-afterall, they left an engineering wagon on the track. I thought if your doing a demo, you would maybe...check the track. I guess common sense isn't all that common.

And poor little Richard Hammond! I'm dead sad about his crash, even though it looks like he'l be fine (I presume, walking and talking 36 hours after being admitted to hospital intensive care has to be good.). On the other hand, most idiots have thought "I wonder what would happen if I but a jet engine on a car", but it takes an exceptionally brave/stupid person to actually do it!

This is why I've been promoting human catapults as a viable transportation alternative. *nod*

Just googled the mag-lev accident.

What a stupid waste of life, leaving a maintenance wagon on the track.

Mag-lev is such a cool technology, I'd hate to see it discarded.
Not bad

If one can call anything about an accident which kills 23 people fortunate then it is fortunate that this wreck had nothing to do with it being Maglev and everything to do with it being a train. The loss of lives and equipment and capital from the accident may kill this Maglev project if it is underfunded but it wont kill the viability or desireability of Maglev as a system to improne railroads.

If that article is correct and the train gets it's motive force from the tracks then some bright engineer will soon figure out how to also use the tracks as sensors to detect obstructions or breaks ahead of the train and then stop the train ahead of time. Then maglevs can be far less prone than friction driven trains to disasters of this kind which are caused by dipshits who dont follow procedure and wing up with conflicting cars on a single line
