Okay. It's 5am, and it's pitch black outside my window. I have a lamp near it, which normally attracts the odd moth or two, but tonight? I have about a hundred wasps swarming the exterior of the window, trying to find a way in. Inititally, there was only one, and I closed the window, because I'm mortally afraid of them. An hour of reading later, and I begin to hear odd noises - like things were hitting the window. I get up to look, and pretty much shit my pants. I'm so glad I closed the window now. I dunno what I'd do with a hundred wasps swarming my bedroom. Probably run out the house screaming.

Yes do that.
When you have good light; take a look outside. You don't have to get close, but you should see if they built a nest somewhere.
If you don't see a hive, there is a good chance they are in the wall or the roof.
In that case, call the bug man.....

Wow! Thats kinda surprising. The wasps around here all get into their nests before it is dark and dont leave it until it is light and warmk outside. I just sort of assumed they did that everywhere. What do your wasps look like?

too right. i fucking hate wasps, so if they're still there tomorrow call someone in to kill them all (preferably involving lots of pain for them... fucking wasps...)
i had a friend who had a nest pretty much outside his window and would get a near constant stream of wasps flying in his window. what did he do? he got a hockey stick and a hand-held electric fan, stuck it out the window and chopped a shitload of em up :P (probably quite stupid really, considering they might get very mad at that...)

Lol, might?
Wasp's are crap, I suggest hiring annoying children to throw at the nest if you find it. Annoying kids are crap too.

Wow wow wow... I usually don't mind any creeper-crawlers, but I draw the line with wasps.
Well, actually, I draw the line around wasps when it comes to the insects living here. They are the only thing to really freak me out, making my hair stand on end.
Glad you noticed them early enough, but you better make sure they didn't settle down in your immediate neighborhood.

Oooh, nasty. We call those "European Wasps", and i've heard rumours of them swarming, killing, and eating livestock.
I would be inclined to disbelieve that, if I hadn't seen them eat a pond full of goldfish in about 5 minutes. I'm totally uncertain how they got the fish out of the water (unless a cat did, and the wasps swarmed the cat until it fled and relented its dinner), but they did, and they picked them to the bone.
Morbidly fascinating, actually. :)

Stay inside - bees sting once and die, wasps sting again and again and again.

It's now morning, and there's no sign of any wasp - not even a dead one. However, the exterior of my window now has weird stains as if they'd been "spitting" on it. Urgh.
The type of wasp we get here is called the [Common wasp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_wasp).
Sure you've not got a wasps nest under your guttering or something?

You should have opened the window and climbed out it too play with your wasp friends. If there is one thing that Willard and Saturday Morning Cartoons have taught me, it is that have a swarm of small carnivores attracted to you can only be a good thing!
*smiles* that reminds me of a time at our state fair. a queen bee and her whole hive stopped to rest under one of those huge umbrella's we have open to provide shade. it was such that looking from any angle, and you would not think anything wrong. but get close and...
well... if you can picture an umbrella, filled to the brim with bees... then you got a picture of what we saw. we called a local bee keeper to some by, and he sifted through that mess to find the queen. he boxed her up and drove away... with the entire hive following him.
Mindset... check everywhere... attic, trees, gutter, vents, even any tiny openings between boards.

I think they've made a hive in my attic, directly above my window. I've put in a call to the experts, and will be sleeping with my window firmly closed tonight.
