Life's simple pleasures..

I stayed home from work again today, I am no longer "feeling sick" as in too sick to work, but according to the school's requirements I am not allowed to work today with the symptoms that I have (you know for the safety of my students)

I am faced with a day alone in my house with no kids, no car, no money, and nothing to do.

I baked some muffins, they turned out semi-edible and I am eating one with some hot tea.

Life is grand. ;)

I like to spend every spare moment I have in a state of very deep sleep :P

A good workout is a great simple pleasure. A couple of beers with friends rates highly. Hanging out on NS general instead of working while at work is also a big one.

Hugs. There is nothing else that quite compares. Assuming you don't mean only activities one can do alone.

Jeez...and to think most employers would prefer that people come in to work when they're sick...I know people thought i was crazy when I went into school sick in high school. I can't imagine being required to stay home from work when you're sick...

That having been said, if I feel like acting like a goofball, I play with my dog. If I am upset, I pet my bird and he helps me calm down. If I feel like having a conversation, I talk to my older cat. If I want to see an animal act like a complete nutball, I play with my younger cat.

Frankly, I would enjoy having them here at the office...the window has a nice view for my bird, my dog would enjoy the company, and my younger cat would love to have new surfaces to jump on and new things to knock on the floor. My older cat would more enjoy having the apartment to herself.

I'm sorry, this counts as a thread hijack, I'm sure.

Besides good food, playing on the computer, watching a good movie and dancing in the living room, there's lying abed on a Saturday or Sunday morning reading and snoozing, and making bread (ah, how wonderful the house smells once it gets in the oven!).

Nice thread, Smunkee. :D

Resting, just sitting down doing nowt but stareing at the tv with me mouth hanging open and not uttering a word nor hearing a word spoken to me.

Well at least for the first hour back from work whislt I get my 'I'm not at work' head on.

Besides reading a good book or watching a movie, one of the things that relaxes me most is target shooting then cleaning the firearms afterwards. I've found that even two screaming 3yr olds don't bother me then.

I love resting so much. Especially if Im not being nagged about a dozen things the second I walk in the door. otherwise I have to do my resing in a bar.

In my Thursday job I deal with children, there are certain symptoms that bar anyone from attending (teachers and children alike) I have 4 of them, if you have more than 2 you have to stay home.

Nice thread, Smunkee. :D

thanks.

I think that list of symptoms might be fun to look at. Maybe add to. Here's are some symptoms that probably aren't on it, but should be:

Random shrieking and fits of rage.
Perpetual defecation.
Spontaneuous combustion.
Sudden irrational cravings for human flesh.
Borg assimilation.

Laying back in a recling chair with a warm blanket and a hot cup of tea on a spring morning when rain is drizzling, a soft, cool breeze is coming in the slightly opened window and fog is beginning to settle. And all the while, you have the Hobbit theme music playing.

Not so simple, but it's one of those moods that I always long for. Along with a few others....

yeah, I have a fever, a sore throat, respitory trouble, and an ear ache.

To be truthful it's mostly the fever that has me banned from work.

Reading the local's comments on random stuff in the paper is fun too..

Dull, but considering how easily kids share colds, understandable. *nod*

Still, it seems to me, that one ought to make it policy that anyone under the control of the Borg Collective should avoid contact with school children. :)

Puttering. You know, do a chore, read a couple of pages, knit a row or two, watch a TV show, do another chore, crochet a row or two, do some cross-stitch, read some more, play on the computer, doze, eat, make homemade soup, do another chore. read some more, prune the roses, and so on. It doesn't get any better than that.

Lets see... you didn't include nearly enough things on your list - and I picked 8 out of 10! (Not primping, let me tell you...) Lets add:

Running
Sleeping
Reading (good books)
Re-reading (very good books)
Hot tea
Sleeping small child on my lap
Sleeping purring kitties on my lap
Sleeping small child AND purring kitties on my lap (not really enough space anymore, since they've all three grown)
Swimming
Biking
Big soft quilts
Playing my harp
Playing the piano
Playing role-playing games (notably Munchkin for a short term game)
Playing Scrabble
Chatting on IM
Sitting on the top of a mountain you just climbed, looking out at the tops of other mountains below you

I don't know - I could go on, but you get the idea.

When I'm bored by myself, I just fire up the computer and start playing computer games or just watch some stuff on youtube. The time just passes by so fast when I do this.
