...If you pause the dinosaur it still looks reasonably three dimensional, and not much like an optical illusion, more like a photo of a model. The worms are awesome though.

Nothing on a computer is 3D solely by the fact that it isn't existant in real life. If it looks 3D on a 2D canvas, it qualifies as 3D.

It's a very subtle effect. The best way to see it is to move close to the screen, then look at different parts of it. The effect is exaggerated when your eyes are moving, and generally occurs in the parts of the image you aren't looking directly at.

It's sort of like the above illusion, the grid of black squares where you can sorta see grey smudges in the corners between each square. If you look directly at the intersection, you see white lines. You can only see the grey areas at the edge of your vision.
