Is he a hero?

Ok, I don't watch Oprah, mainly because I find her shows annoying, but this morning as I was driving home from my intership I listened to Keith Larson and he was doing the Lavender folder thing, you know where you talk about gay and lesbians issuses. Anyways he talks about James McGreevey and how he went on Oprah to promote his new book. Now like I said I don't watch Oprah because well, I just don't and Mr. Larson talks about how Mr. McGreevey writes how hard it was for him to be gay, finding sex in seedy areas, and in allies etc. Then after that he talks about how he got married twice, had two daughters and introduced alot of anti-gay lesgilation to cover up the fact that he likes men. After Mr. Larson got done summarzing the show, he then says that this man is no hero. He didn't conquer anything, he didn't do anything heroic. He certainly lied to four women and used them to cover up the fact that he's gay. You know at first it does sound cold hearted, but I think he has a point. Mr. McGreevey did lie and betray four women, and they are the real victim in this whole thing. Now don't get me wrong I don't give a rats ass if you're gay, lesbian or have a fetish for goats, but I doubt Mr. McGreevey two wives realize that he was gay until he came out of the closet, and wow, to realize that the man whom you love, cared for and created a family with has basically been living a lie and you've been unwillingly helping him live that lie.

It's great that Mr. McGreevey came out of the closet, it's great that he's finally being honest with himself, and his family, but honestly this man is no hero.

What do yall think?

How can you be a 'hero' simply for admitting your sexuality?

I believe the message here is "We don't care". But that's just a guess.

Seconded. I'm bisexual, and served before "don't ask, don't tell" and my commanders knew I was bisexual, and my wife knows, and it's great being honest.

Fuck him for lying all those years.

This is precisely why I didn't really enjoy Brokeback Mountain. I was expecting a wonderful love story. Instead, what I got was two totally unlikeable characters - people who didn't care at all who they hurt in trying to hide who they were - who happened to be gay.

Well, they set it deliberately in an earlier time period in redneck country, and made it quite apparent that coming out of the closet would mean death.

To give the main characters an out for their concealment.

Yes but two really hot unlikeable characters! I haven't seen it, don't care to for precisely the reasons you stated, if I want to see someone pretending to be straight I'll watch Fred Phelps.

I don't know...all I took away from this was a headline from The Onion that read: "Homosexual Tearfully Admits to Being Governor of New Jersey"

The fact he's gay? I couldnt care less.
I dont think he really even is "gay"- he has fathered at least one -but maybe two daughters.

I dont like he deliberately put on and lived the charade he did to his wife, family and his constituents. He was deliberately dishonest there.
But-many have done far worse.

The circumstances of his "outing" are disgraceful-he was lured into a relationship with an Israeli, whom I'm a sure was part of a honey trap set-up-whom he then appointed to a postion of power.

I wonder if there is anything this person arranged to smuggle into NJ ports while he oversaw them.

McGreevy did consolidate toll booths on the Parkway-so now there are half as many booths that collect double the fares.
He also re-vamped the Motor Vehicle offices- Now you can actually do business in there, quickly and efficiently, and actually have smiling helpful people help you.

Being gay doesn't mean you're incapable of having sex with a woman. Just means you really don't want to.

 What? Isn't there some law of the universe which mandates that any experience at the DMV is going to be hell on earth? I mean, damn, forget hero! If he even made the DMV tolerable I'd put this guy up there with Gandhi and Abe Lincoln. :D

He deserves no recognition at all. Not just because of the women he lied to, the gay people who had to live under legislation that he authored or supported and the public he decieved, but because of what he did to his daughters.
