Sorry, now that that's out of the way, someone had better lose their job over this.

Fine, I never heard of it. This article is making it sound like something new.

Literally speaking. Had a debate club in school, the year's topic was extraordinary rendition.

The commission said Canadian police were wrong when they told U.S. officials the man was an extremist suspected of having ties to al-Qaida.
You must have skipped that line see that's what gets the usa in trouble by being gullable to canada and other foreign nations.
same thing in Iraq not only us intellegence but Isreal, pakistan, russia and a couple of others all said the same thing saddam has WMDs now since we didn't find them whose to blame USA (although I do speculate that they tunneled them across to Syria)
and now this torture incidence with the canadian police telling us about his ties to al-queda. and you blame usa of course. Its high time other nations start to take accountability for their actions.

Fine, I never heard of it. This article is making it sound like something new.Sorry--didn't mean to sound snippy. The new development in the story is that the Canadian government is admitting that they never had anything on Arar in the first place and gave the US his name because they were under pressure to give them something, anything in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.
The last time I heard something about this story, he was getting fucked by a US judge who said he couldn't sue the US government for getting him tortured.

Then I suppose it is yet another example of how other countries are much more moral then the U.S. can ever claim to be.

why wouldn’t they just transport them over by road?

Well, I think the lesson here is that we shouldn't export terror suspects to foreign countries to be tortured without trial no matter what foreign authorities say... you know, to stop this sort of thing from happening.
And by "this sort of thing", I mean "the torture of innocent civilians in direct violation of international law, human rights, and basic moral decency." A handy shorthand phrase, if I do say so myself.

Errr... no. What gets the US in trouble is going around torturing people.
What do you bet that he doesn't even get an apology from the government?

Well, I think he's gotten one from his government. I just don't know if he's gotten one from mine.
