Any fiddle (violins for you deprived people) players?

I used to play the fiddle back when I was in high school. However, due to a series of surgery, I had to quit. I still have my fiddle, and I've been thinking about starting it back up. Of course I thought about praticing on my own instead of going to an instructor. Are there any other fiddle players here?
Oh an intresting tibit about my fiddle, it is signed by Charlie Daniels himself! I went to one of his concert with my dad and he bribed one of the guards to let us go back stage. Well I played Amazing Grace for Mr. Daniels and he signed my fiddle and gave me one of his bows. I still have that bow and I may just put it on display along with my signed picture of Chuck Yeager and signed football from the Carolina Panthers.

I have one, but it's a terrible piece of shit, takes forever to tune, and I just don't have the tolerance to play it. I wish it wasn't so cheap or I'd have gotten into it.

You can buy a better one. Mine is one of those cheap one to, and the only thing I really hate about it is that I have to tune it up everytime I play it! Also they don't make those tones machines for violins, but guitars, which also sucks.

I played violin until 8th grade, when I had a huge growth spurt and grew over 1.5ft over the summer. My suddenly larger hands didn't do so well. I haven't touched my violin in 11 years.

Ah, I'm too cheap. The next instrument I'll be buying is bagpipes....that's as soon as I can get up to about a grand of excess cash.

I do have one of those tuning machines, but I don't know if they work on my fiddle or how to use it lol. I have thought about getting one of those eletric fiddles.

I played violin for 12 years, I think. Haven't touched one in 12 years, too.
I didn't like it much back then and never practiced. Today I wish I'd been better and still played. Oh well, I'm sure as hell not gonna start again.

Go for uillean pipes they sound better.

Chromatic tuners? Well, i'm not too sure what's involved in tuning a violin, but I imagine it would still pick up the pitch correctly.

I've got one (tuning machines), and it does work, just make sure its like set to the note, or try to just get it near the note so it can pick it up.

Ah, they're alright, but I'd prefer bagpipes.

I thought about taking up an instrument again, but I really don't have the time or the inclination at the moment. Perhaps when I'm done with college, but not now.

I play the Cello which is ultimately a large violin you straddle with your legs.
Sounds better than the squeeky violin too.

And it usually sounds better than my old instrument.
Dirty secret - I used to be a violist.

Yeah, I always liked the cello. However, my family was far too poor to buy me one, so I went with the violin.

I had lessons at my school, so I didn't need to pay for it. The good-quality cellos do cost a lot, so I'm really thankful I got the opportunity.
