All those forced too a life of involuntary celibacy (will never have sex, for whatever the reason), congregate here! (church bells ring)

Wow... your poll has 4 options that all, generally, mean the same thing. Congratulations. ALSO, is there such a thing as what you're describing. I mean... really. There's always someone out there who wants to have sex with you. Isn't that true? I believe that even the ugliest person can find a mate.

Maybe an ugly one, and who wants that? Sometimes nothing is better than something terrible.

Oh yes, this must be true.

A girl at work is hideous, smells funny, has a voice that sounds worse than nails on a chalk board, and I'm not even going to try and describe her personality. Yet somehow she has a kid....

My point is... if you go your whole life without having sex, I can almost guarantee you it is because you didn't want to, or you never really tried to. People who want sex can get sex. There are even people in this world who PREFER their mates to be fat.

What's wrong with celibacy? I find it more than normal, and in fact even better. By giving myself to the teachings of the stoics, I have been able to avoid all the pleasures of the flesh and live a simple, modest life of peace. I believe that is much better than being a horny person always on the look out for someone else to fornicate with.

You remind me of Armenian Cheese, and someone else who I can't remember his name. They both made threads based on your findings, and "explaining" why we don't need sex. Somehow these are the only debates I actually debated in, and somehow, I was the only one who did little more than flame.

Not so long ago Armenian cheese changed his mind after finding these "pleasures of the flesh," and I don't know what happened to the other.

I'm 18, I only got laid for the first time about a week ago. I don't normally try and pick up when I go to parties (I live on campus at a uni) and I'm not bad looking and I'm not deformed.

It doesn't live up to the expectations.

Okay, so I posted in the "how often..." thread, but I wanted to post here too. I said there that being married... has its benefits. I stand a perfect 0% chance of remaining a virgin, either voluntarily or involuntarily since I'm not one. Anymore.

Until I got married, however, I was. And there's not only nothing wrong with not chasing around random partners to fornicate with, there's a lot right with keeping "clean" until being married. And for you people who think that is bizarre, I think you have no idea what you're dealing with... you may never... you may someday realise I'm right. I don't know. But don't look down on the ones who agree with me and either choose to remain celibate indefinitely or are just waiting to be married.

She doesn't have a guy, trust me on this. Otherwise she wouldn't throw herself all over every guy that worked there. Yes, she threw herself at me, and when I told her I was taking my job back after I took a break, she freaked out on me. I'm still trying to figure out what I did wrong, so are the other five people who all watched this situation unfold.

Shortly there after she started obsessing over the next guy. Only to nearly quit the job, screaming that the boss is an asshole. Only being saved by one VERY kind hearted coworker, who talked her into staying. That same coworker saved her from quiting on three other occasions, until she called the coworker a bitch. Somehow she still is working with us, and said kind hearted coworker has dissapeared.

I'll stand here as counterpoint. I was a virgin until I married as well, and for me, it was a mistake, because I built sex up into such a big deal that there was no way it could live up to expectations. In a sense, I was a bit like Cameron from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, only, you know, poor as hell--so ready to feel sex as love that when I did get married and get laid, I had no self-respect, and that kept me in the marriage longer than I should have been. Looking back, I have to believe that if I'd had sex, seen what the big deal was, I wouldn't have been so desperate to be married at 20.

Is that the fault of marriage or the fault of society, though? So many people today grow up with this attitude that 'sex is everything' because that's what they're told since the moment they're about 10; it's probably inevitable that more stories like yours will occur.

In my case, I blame the culture I was raised in--fundamentalist Christianity that taught that sex outside specific, prescribed bounds was dirty and sinful. Consensual sex is just sex--it's as dirty as you want to make it, and as long as it's consensual, it can be, as Maud Lebowski put it, a zesty enterprise.

It's the linking of it to sinfulness that I have the biggest problem with, because it imposes artificial control and guilt on what is a perfectly natural desire.

i'm 21 and only got laid for the first time a few months ago because i've never tried to 'pick up' chicks at parties either, and have never had or wanted anything like a one-night-stand, but rather waited for a real relationship with someone i cared about to come along. that's just what i wanted, and while it was difficult to see all my friends (well, most of them) get laid before me, to each his own, and i'm still very happy with my choice :)

and for the record, it gets better... and better... and better ;) :D

Or rather a vow of me-libacy.
