We all view Vikings differently... Some good some bad...

Well they're like a Scandinavian version of Pirates basically, so what's not to like?

How do I view vikings?

From a safe distance. I don't want to be pillaged. ANymore. :(

The other day, I'm biking to work and I end up behind a Viking Sprinklers van. They're a large company that get a lot of work in Eastern Canada, and perhaps other places. Anyway, I got this vision in my head of some guys with long beards and pigtails, leather armor, longswords, etc. standing around at a construction site wearing hardhats with horns on them.

I liked them just fine.:)

It's not pillaging, it's agressive borrowing.

Vikings are great! I'm related to some.

On a somewhat serious note: Vikings did actually do some good in the world. When they came to a new place if they felt they were more powerful than the locals, they pillaged; if they felt they were less powerful than the locals they sad "hey! We're here to trade!"

Vikings are largely responsible for the Rus getting together and forming a society over in Eastern Europe (the Vikings forced them to organize so they could be used as a trading route). Yay vikings!

This is a staggeringly bad attempt at drawing an analogy to Ny Nordland's equally ridiculous "How Do You View Musilms" thread. First off, "Muslim" refers to an adherent to Islam, a religion currently practiced in the world today by about a billion people. "Viking" refers to a culture/ethnicity/race whose last echoes as anything but history, mythology or genealogy were heard centuries ago.

Attack the initial bad sentiment with better sentiment.

viking was just the name of Norse pirates.

They inspired some cool opera, but other than that, they aren't so great.

I love the Vikings. With the exception of their pagan religion and their aggressive pirating, they are everything that I hold dear. They are the prime example of the Noble Northern Spirit before Hitler made everyone fear and hate it.

Indeed, they are only ever denigrated by other passy-assed european descendants who simply can't handle the fact that it took them another 500 years or so to develop the cojones to sail across the Atlantic.

Vikings are nice, becuse they were one of the few things in the Swedish history class that was interesting.

But then some christians had to came along and Sweden turned us into pansys ;)

Why do so many people view Vikings positively. They did hardly anything other than steal, kill and rape.

You know, the Vikings were mostly victims of bad press. I mean, yeah, once or twice, or a couple hundred times, they got drunk and brawled a little, and burned a couple of villages to the ground, but most of the time they were really nice guys. The kind of guys you'd trust to baby sit your kids. I mean, I knew a Viking once. His name was Leif Gorehammer. He'd crawl across miles of broken glass just to get a kitten out of a tree.

I took a course reacently on the vikings, Best Class Ever. It was a lot of fun, some of the things vikings did are in from the distance of time hilarious. Best was when some vikings sacked Luna thinking it was Rome only to be informed by one of the populace that they were in the wrong city:p

I think they have a good chance to squeeze into the post-season but I doubt they'll make the NFC finals.

They're looking better than around the time of the Love Boat incident, and I think clearing house, specifically Tice and Culpepper, was a good move for them. They needed a fresh start. But, they're still a long, long way from where I imagine they'd like to be. They could finish second in the NFC North, but not by virtue of their play, but because they're in the same division as the Packers and the Lions, arguably two of the bottom five teams in the league. They'll be a distant second in a division that might only see Chicago with a winning record.
