Is It Right for Celebrities To Endorse Crap?

I'm mostly talking about Jessica Simpson and those retarded Proactiv commercials. Before I got Proactiv my mom had switched jobs and gotten different health insurance so I couldn't use my acne prescriptions anymore, so we tried Proactiv (some lady she worked with had used it and said it was good). Well I didn't think it would work because it had been shown on TV (with Jessica F@#$ing Simpson!). Well....... I tried it, though I was very skeptical. And what happens?

IT DOESN'T EFFING WORK!!!!!

So, I was wondering... should singers/actors endorse any type of product (wieght loss, acne care, etc.), or should it be just normal people?

There's nothing wrong with them endorsing a product. If you buy it because of them, that's not their foolishness showing.

Well I don't see what's wrong with endorsing things, especially when they get big bucks to do it.

However, if I see a stupid commercial and a stupid celebrity, I won't buy whatever the hell it is they're selling.

I DID get a box of Chocolate Lucky Charms after I saw Conan O' Brien ate some. I like Conan. :)

As long as it's crap, it's okay. A celebrity should never endorse a quality, worthwhile product.

in my experience no face care products work there just there to make you feel like there is an improvement the best cure IMHO is cut down on stress and be happy (the best cure of all:) )

On the topic I say they can but anyone who buys a product for the celebrity is asking for it(unless it’s a politician advertising in which case I would buy whatever Putin wants me to buy)

Seeing as our economy is oriented towards the consumer, it is up to them to decide whether or not they listen to celebrities in commercials. Like it or not, they have made their decision.

MY mom didn't listen to the commercials, she listened to the lady at work. I didn't think it would work because there was a celebrity endorsing it.

maybe it worked for jessica simpson?

back in the day when the FCC cared more about truth in advertising than a glimpse of janet jackson's nipple, it was ruled that celebrities could endorse any product and say they used it no matter if it were true or not. regular people who gave their name and said they had used a product and liked it had to be telling the truth.

Yes, but only because it's wrong to be paid for an endorsement; if you don't like a product enough to endorse it for free, you shouldn't endorse it at all.
