Do you have Eczema?

You see, I've had eczema ever since I was little, and every year it comes back and flares up; just like genital herpes. If you've had or have eczema, you know how ****ing annoying it can get. As soon as it goes away somewhere, it pops up again in a different location. I happen to get it on the bottom of my feet and around my hands. Normally it isn't so terrible, but it seems to be a lot worse this year. Apparently 60-70% of kids who get it grow out of it in their mid teens (I'm 16), so I think I might be stuck with it. Do any of you guys (if you have it or get it) know of any ways to deal with it?

I have eczema as well as my brother. My brother has it worse of than me though. Do you have hydrocortisone cream? It works wonders. Just try not to scratch the dry parts, and you should be fine. Hopefully your condition will improve over time, like mine. It hardly ever bothers me anymore.

I think I might have that, or at least something similar. I'm not sure what kind of metal it is, but I breakout from prolonged exposure, like a chain around my neck or a belt buckle on my stomach.

That'll teach you not to wash your hands while at night clubs.

it could be nickel just like me, or silver, hell it could be almost any metal but yeah the way I found out was from one of my belt buckles....

Shower often. Use as little soap as possible. Keep the temperature low. Baby oil & non-fancy lotions are your friends. Don't use all sorts of shitty perfumes & stuff, not even when you wash your clothes.

The cause of your problem is that your skin is unable to retain it's fat & moisture & that's often worsened by allergic rashes. When you realise that, you should be able to combat it relatively easily.

For most people it sorts itself out before they're 30. It's rarely cronic, especially if you suffered from it before you were a teenager.

Zink lotions & such are usually good as well, as is lots of sun. Generally, avoid anything that could give you dry skin & avoid anything that might exaggerate the allergic reaction. Doing those two things are usually enough to keep the eczema from breaking out 90% of the time. When it does break out, use cortizon products to get it under control & tie your hands behind your back if you have to. Getting yourself infected can be quite painful if you're unlucky.

Had it on the backs of my hands when I was really little. The doctor gave me some sort of medicine that cleared it up. It has never returned.

I used to wear a lot of metal chains at one time and a choker and all that stuff, and my seatbelt-belt would make me breakout. So far, my two pewter belt buckles arent doing that, and I've had them for a while, so I'm happy about that.

I have DH, (http://www.aocd.org/skin/dermatologic_diseases/dermatitis_herpeti.html) which is eczema-like, I get an eczema-like rash on my arms, tummy, and legs whenever I get exposed to gluten, it stays for about 3-6 weeks and hurts and itches really badly. Most recently I had a breakout on my arms from accidentally washing my hands with soap that had gluten in it.

So, can you not eat gluten? or just not touch it?

"Only" when I'm under a lot of stress and my immune system runs amok... (which happens a lot, lately).

Here's something that you might want to try - helps really good, too!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigella_sativa

Black Cumin oil from cold-pressed seeds. Works great, just give it a try. It's a natural helper against eczema, no matter what causes them (maybe except for the metal/contact thing), but it is good against bacteria and fungi, so there.

Even worked for the old Egyptians http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/GermanNightmare/Egypt.gif

Besides, I've grown rather fond of the smell.

Yes I have Eczema.

I used to have it very badly on my hands when I worked as a dishwasher in a restaurant.

Now I get it on my elbows for some strange reason.
Hydrocortizone cream helps but it never really goes away.

I managed to fuel my reputation as a viral terrorist planning to destroy civilisation on having eczema. I'm twelve, but some of my classmates seem to almost believe me when I say I blow up skyscrapers for kicks.

Here, lemmie save you some trouble: I've had it and I've had EVRY THING YOU CAN THINK OF prescribed to deal with it. Trust me, and save your money: use ordinary hand cream for temporary relief and if you havn't grown out of it now, you're stuck with it. It's all based on climate, however, so you might want to move somewhere more tropical if you can.

Tree-hugging, too! But I have to disappoint you when it comes to "long-haired". Those days are over...

No, but honestly, it's bad enough with all the pharmaceuticals I'm taking on a daily basis - I don't need more stuff that could irritate my skin to treat irritations of my skin...

(With the newest stuff I started taking a couple of days ago I can't even compete at Olympic Games anymore - while I could now just be eligible to participate in the Tour de France...)

I can not eat or touch it, I have a theory that I can't breathe it either because when I was young and on the farm I would break out something terrible and be sick during harvest, but that was before my diagnosis, and now after I am scared to go back.

Aw, that's unfortunate. I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know how my friend deals with his gluten-intolerancy so well. I don't know what I'd do if I was in his position especially since my friends throw rolls, pretzels, etc. at him.

it's easy to deal with (okay not easy, but easier) once you realize that gluten is toxic for you, not just that it doesn't make you feel good, but that your immune system really thinks it's poison.

There is enough gluten in 1/48th of a slice of bread to do serious damage to a celiac's intestines, once they are damaged you can't absorb any food until they heal.

Be supportive of your friend, it's a sucky diet, esp. in America where just about everything in the store has wheat in it.

Yeah, it's bad. He told me something about someone was trying to get rid of the law stating you had to say what was in your products. I thought it was messed up 'cause that would just fuck him up. I feel bad for him cause all the wheat free stuff he eats is pretty gross, except the pizza we had, that was really good.

Well, it is a medical condition so if you haven't already done so you might go to the doctor and see if he can give you a prescription that will help. If you can't do that, you might talk with the pharmacist to see if there is some over the counter medication that will help. Good luck and I hope you do outgrow it.

I have had eczema since I was little. I continue to ezxema on occasion today. However 3 or 4 times I have had this rare uncontrollable rash that starts with my lip swelling up, then my head itching, then my neck turning red, then everywhere on my body turning red, then everything breaking out. Cordnisone ndidn't do anything and I saw a bunch of specialists and nobody had a clue what it was. It was painful and burned like hell because of the constant itching. Anyway I went to my regular doctor, he looked at me and said prednisone. It's a prescription steroid, and one week of it cleared up the rash. I am obsessed with that drug.

yeah, my girls were so young when they went gluten free that they don't really realize how crappy their food tastes, but me? yeah I tried a gluten free oreo the other day and it was so hard not to say (you know because I was with my girls) "this looks like an oreo, but it tastes like shit"

LOL

yeah, I called a LOT of my congressmen last year about that, they were trying to make it to where if something said "gluten free" instead of being gluten free it could have a "small amount of gluten". My easy way to make them understand that a small amount of gluten was really bad was to say "let me bake you brownies and include just a small amount of dog shit in them"

I get really annoyed with the FDA sometimes. ;)
