New Modeling Project

Warning: As much as I should be, I'm not a model, and this is not about showing off my body, etc. You have been warned.

Anyways, a long time ago, I resolved to start a project. Quite simply, I wanted to turn the world of Pokemon Red into Three Dimensions. Its not that I'm some pokemon fanatic, or anything. It just seemed like an interesting piece of work, and I had wished that they had made a real, 3d pokemon game.

This is as far as I got, before moving onto other things. This was years ago, when my modeling ability was much less. Regardless, I've lost this(and all my other work) to a computer wipe.

I liked it at the time, though its quite basic. I simply took the picture in the game, the birds-eye 2d, and created this with a little imagination.

Well, I've decided to do this again. I'm more confident in my abilities, and I think this is a project that affords great artistic flexibility with a good outline. What do you guys think about this?

Excellent so far. But it's going to take a lot of patience to finish.

As they say at 3D Total, which prog are you using, and can we see a wire? It's a very well done start though.

I am correct in assuming that this is a CG model, and not a sculpted one? It's sometimes hard to tell when someone does a clay render.

Close. The first picture is your characters room, yes(though it will be redone). The Second picture is your actual house, though I have more additions to make.

Lol, fr starters, I'm not nearly imaginative to do that. I don't even plan to make a whole game of this, just the enviornment, or at least at the time being. Its just a fun project to expand my architectural and landscaping skills, heh.

You know what would be cool? If NSers cooperated to make this into a game. You can do the environments (at least in part) and I'm sure we have enough people on these forums with the necessary skills to make this into a game. It would be pretty mad awesome.

Gracias. Ah, nice and clean mesh. And a great start. Pokemon huh? shudder :D

I really gotta get my copy of 8 installed. Max 7 is nice, but some of th etools they added to the editable polys' are so much nicer to work with. And 9 is looking even better.

This looks amazing? I myself once wanted to do something about the 3d pokemon game but you've gone five better then me. Are you going to voice it or will it be a screen reader? I've got my hands on some powerful sound recording equipment if you thinking of voices I'd love to help the team.

Question: Will you be making the long grass an active plate like the game or will npcs walk freely around?

I think there's been a misunderstanding. I don't plan on making this a game, at least not at the moment. I'm just modeling the world as a hobby.

Hmm...do you have Gmod? Apparently somebody modeled all of Frank Lloyd Wright's falling water house (http://digitalurban.blogspot.com/2006/08/frank-lloyd-wright-architectual.html) using it. Pretty impressive to me (novice modeler limited to MicroStation)

Gmod? You mean the Half life 2 mod where you make and manipulate stuff? nope. Not a big fan of it, or the source engine in general. Besides, thats the poor mans modeling, so to speak.

Now just cause I'm a bit of an arse, I'll plug my own work. :p

Pure assembly minus render times for testings hmmm, about 16 hours. Final render times were roughly 10 minutes each.

Yeah, I do low poly stuff. Not bad high poly, though the textures are more impressive than anything. The modeling is actually fairly basic, though by no means bad.

It looks like the basis of an ant, but it's missing 2 extra legs. As for low poly stuff, why don't you try for high poly? In fact, you can do wonders with normal mapping and still have low poly stuff.

I was going for a kind of spider feel, with four robotic legs instead. Will work on the face, and maybe some other stuff.

The body should look a lot more interesting with an actual texture. Half metalic, half spider.. all hardcore :P
