I'm curious as to which colleges people on here have attended, are attending, or plan to attend.

Right now, I plan to go to the University of South Florida.

So, which college do you, did you, or will you go to?

Really? I went to New College before it became part of USF. Sarasota was fun in the 70's, especially for someone who grew up in New Jersey and expected snow and ice all winter. Probably why it took me from 1969 to 1975 to graduate. :p

I have yet to see snow, but I can imagine how that might delay things a bit.:)

I'm probably going to go to the Tampa campus of USF, even though the Sarasota branch is growing and is a bit closer to where I live.

Give me your address, I'll send all the snow I shovel off my sidewalk this winter.

When I got there just about 37 years ago *takes a moment to be stunned by that* my incoming class doubled the size of the school to 500. By the time I left, we were around 850, I think. When I arrived they told us to look around, two out of every three new students would be gone in two years. We had a huge attrition rate, mainly because, being the hippie school we were, there were no required subjects and very little discipline beyond what you yourself provided.

It was a cool place. I haven't been back and I'm not sure I want to visit, it would spoil all my myths and memories.

Have fun (seriously, do) and enjoy the learning!

No thanks:) I'll just have to go up north in the winter sometime. I've been as far north as Niagara Falls, but only in the summer.

I studied Classics, which meant I took classes with and learned Greek and Latin from one very cool professor. Plus history and bunches of other stuff, but "Classical Studies" is what my diploma says. I didn't ever go to Bishop Planetarium (we were very challenged transportationally, almost no one had a car), and I don't know about Snooty. This was almost 40 years ago. Yeah, we never had a bear themed mascot. We where seals up until students insisted that the slug was a better mascot, since the little buggers are everywhere. I like that we broke from tradition a little, it fits the rest of our school nicely. (It didn't have grades until very recently, instead it had narrative evaluations)

Here's a "Top 10" of thing I wish someone had told me before I went to college...

1. People come and people go. Don't worry about it.

2. 5% extra effort often equates to much, much more. Make sure your professors know you.

3. You are responsible for you. Or not. Whichever you choose is your problem.

4. You will meet people that will change your life. Be nice.

5. You will change other people's lives. Be nice.

6. Everyone has something wrong with them. If everyone could form a circle and throw all their problems into a pile and was forced to take one back at random, you'd fight to get yours back.

7. Be confident. If you're not, you'll never get anywhere.

8. Sometimes you have to take a risk. Sometimes you shouldn't. Wisdom is being able to tell the two apart.

9. Travel as much as you can. You never know what will happen.

10. Treat school like a job. Start your day, go for 8 hours, then go home. Don't hang around the dorm all day or whatever. That's the path to failure.

Graduate of the University of Connecticut, class of 1995.

I've heard this before, but I disagree. People who don't get bored are always pretty satisfied and don't do anything abnormal to break the boredom they have. I think that interesting, dynamic people get bored-that's why they do all that non-boring stuff, because they're bored and they don't want to be anymore.

I am never bored, can't think of a time when I was. I am pretty good at finding things to entertain myself. In fact you should look up my "chance to do something important" thred. it's a way I entertain myself for hours at a time when forced to be around my mom.

But if you didn't do all that stuff you'd be bored, so you do all that stuff. If you didn't get bored or have the capacity for it you could just sit and do nothing and it wouldn't bother you. (I can't lose this becuase if I did I'd have to go back and find an ex-girlfriend and admit defeat, and I'm not doing that...)

I can amuse myself without having to "do" anything, I can sit and think and be entertained.

I'm currently going to Central Michigan University for a degree in French.

I did the military thing too, and it's rather handy having that money from Uncle Sam every month. Also, it's kinda wierd being the old kid in class.

Ya ever wonder why they call it "MT" Pleasant?

Not a mountain in sight.

Ahh...the Mt Pleasant student ghetto....Ive wasted many brain cells there.

I actually dropped out of 3 diff colleges Angelo State University, South Plains College, and Lubbock Christian University. Several of my professors didnt care for being proven wrong in middle of class and made it thier mission to see me flunk out. I corrected my math's teacher on way to do problem 6 or 7 times a week I swear I probably should of been teaching the class not taking it.

I'm curious as to which colleges people on here have attended, are attending, or plan to attend.

Right now, I plan to go to the University of South Florida.

So, which college do you, did you, or will you go to?

I spent 9 months of the past year at The Georgia Insitute of Technology.

That didn't work out too well.

If everything goes according to plan, I will be attending the University of South Florida this January.

Small world ain't it?

Yeah, I've always wondered that. As the saying goes "There aren't any mountains, and it's not all that pleasant". I'm sort of a townie (I'm from Alma) so I get asked that a lot.

Ah yes, Welcome Weekend on Frat Row and up and down Washington. Fun times.

Mt Pleasant is actually starting to suck a lot less. They're building a whole lot more commercial stuff down by Walmart and rumors are flying around about a mall being built sometime in the near future.

The University was ranked the 47th in the World University Ranking in November 2005 published by The Times Higher Education Supplement, climbing two places from 2004. The University was also ranked 40th in top technology universities, 89th in top arts and humanities universities, 29th in the top biomedicine institutions and in the top 25 for social sciences.
Considering how easy it was to get in, and that I'm not really paying very much at all, despite not having a scholarship, I don't think I can complain.

What's wrong with you! Don't you know that you'll not be able to get a good job, that you'll spend the rest of your life sorting garbage, that no one will respect you, that you'll smell, that you won't have anything to frame on your wall, that you won't be popular on campus? Don't you know that?

You do? Well then, good for you! You didn't fall for the pro-college propaganda like the rest of us did.

it does not "roughly equate"; it equals. We use both the terms "college" and "university" in the United States to refer to institutions of higher education.
