Every so often, I'll see a commercial for some crappy financial service, home employment program, or technical school, and the website they give seems odd. It always seems to be of the format:

www.#word.com

where the "#" is a random number and "title" is the name of the service in question, or some word associated with it.

What is it with these websites? Are they all owned by the same company? Do they use the same webhost? Is it meant to be memorable? Whatever it is, it isn't working, because all I think when I see a URL like that is "scam" and "cheap".

Whaddya think?

most of them are owned by the same MLM and the number at the begining of the web address is meaning which "independent rep" you are going to be signed up under.

(or that's the way it is around here)

My aunt buys into it, I shudder when she calls me, I know what it's about.
