SIX WOUNDED AFTER CANADA
SHOOTING
-------------
At least six people have been injured,
three seriously, in a shooting at a
school in Montreal, Canada.

The incident occurred inside Dawson
College, an English-language school in
downtown Montreal.

It is understood two gunmen entered the
school at about 1pm local time and
started shooting.

Anybody else heard anything about this??

Wow, shooting in a college? I guess it's true that some people never grow up. Alot of the reports seem confused as to injured and fatality numbers. I hope that most people are okay.

Yeah_ saw this an hour or so ago- the view from above of students running out of the building -I started working again and havent paid attention since- Last I heard they were looking for a second gunman, one had been shot or had shot himself.

We probably won't figure that out for a while. Although it's probably two students who were pissed that they failed a test or something...

sorry for being a judgemental piece of shite, but one of the articles said witnesses spotted a white male with a mohawk shooting, could be another columbine situation. Dejected, hopeless kids and guns don't mix

Maybe dozen others injured.

2 gunmen in black trenchcoats, one killed by cops the other a suicide.

I don't have access to a TV right now, so maybe i should go watch MSNBC or some other news stations live webcast....heh

How could this happen?! They have very strict gun control laws, 'all' guns must be registered there and a lot of types are restricted!

Seriously though, I feel really bad for the victims and their familys. I hope the scum behind this get what they have coming! :mp5:

It might be some disgruntled students or something. Shooting people like that won't make the world a better place, so why even suggest that type of thing?

Fox news is full of shit.

Latest report was one gunmen "incapacitated", police looking for another one or more shooter in the college and the vincinity.

6 Seriously injured. One of them a security or police (bit fuzzy about that).
at least six other injured not seriously.

That is according to the police ten minutes ago. I should know, I live two blocks away and it's been all over the local radios.

I'm glad that the leader of the Canadian Student's Union was excellently chilled out about this, and reacted to some very leading questions without hyperbole.

This basically the BBC transcript :

BBC News : So, does this remind you of the 1989 massarce in any way?

Canadian chap : No, that was a sexist attack by men who thought that women had no place in Engineering, this is seemingly a pretty random thing.

BBC News : Right... so do you think that security needs to be tightened over Canada after this horrible attack?

Canadian Chap : Urmm well there's only so much you can really do, and we don't want students to feel they're going to jail every day, you know?

BBC News : Right... so do you know exactly how many people were in the building and hence at risk - it could be up to ten thousand, we've heard?

Canadian Chap : Well... you are correct that there are ten thousand students enrolled, but due to us having a system similar to your English one here in Quebec, we think that a lot less will have been there, as people may have gone to the shops in their free period, or have just not been there today. Maybe about six thousand were "at risk", although most people are now out of the building.

BBC News : And how many gunmen do you think were in the building - how many might still pose a threat?

Canadian Chap : I'm terribly sorry, but I don't actually know. The most I've heard is "four" and some say only one person was involved. I guess most people are saying that a couple have been killed by the police, or one of them commited suicide, but how could I know, not being there?

BBC News : So how many fatalities do you think there'll be - will it be as bad as the 1989 massacre?

Canadian Chap : I don't really know, maybe there'll be something like ten deaths at the most if there are any more gunmen left, otherwise it'll be in the region of five I think, I've heard four are already dead, and with six in a critical condition, I don't know they'll all make it, but I'm just going on the same news as you guys are...

BBC News : Hmm ok, thanks.

Canadian Chap : No worries.

AOL is carrying a story (http://articles.news.aol.com/news/_a/several-people-shot-at-montreal-college/20060913144509990003?ncid=NWS00010000000001) from the AP, from about 14:50 US/EDT, saying the authorities were uncertain about the number of gunmen or casualities. And the story does have a picture of at least one person being wheeled out to an ambulance.

CNN is saying pretty much the same thing as FOX, guess they aren't paying attention to the local police like they should. No big surprise.

Though "incapacitated" could just be mean dead. Can't really say.

To Canadians, it was a big deal. In particular, it was instrumental in raising awareness to violence against women, since in that instance the shooter specifically targeted women. Another shooting in a Montreal college is an obvious mention.

(And 1989 doesn't feel like it was that long ago, at least for me.)

Wouldn't be the first time a news outlet would jump the gun in a mad dash to beat competitors to the latest news.

as for Incapacitated, the police can never say "dead" until it was pronouced dead by a doctor, so they probably are killed but the police cannot say it.

Latest news: two shooters "incapacitated" one by his own hands. The SWAT team is going to force a door open to get a third suspect. 12 people sent to hospital, 6 seriously injured , 4 critical, 2 stables.

EDIT: Police just confirmed the death of one of the shooter. They say they are looking for as much as five shooters.

Well, my friend is all right, though she is shaken up. I will have to go soon.

Nothing to add, other than the school is saying two shooters are dead, one by police. Police aren't saying anything.

I think they're still searching for a possible third shooter.

I find out half an hour after the news broke out. I was in my school's office and they received a fax about it. I was terrified since I knew my brother had a class at Dawson College today. I called him up and his cell phone was out of service so you can imagine how I felt.

I eventually found out that he got stopped in the underground metro station on his way to the school and called my mom.

Apparently it was some emo kid and his buddy.

For what? The issue isn't that these deaths are any more 'horrible' than deaths in Africa. The issue is that you apparently don't have a conscience, and have no problem laughing at the misery of others.

Is anyone claiming that this is worse than what is going on in Africa? It's just breaking news, and relevant to the Canadian posters on this forum (as well as anyone with a shred of human decency.)

No. The area has been cordoned off by the police and they are still searching, but I think it's more of a technicality. The police are being quite clear that there was one shooter, and they killed him.

Well it is a big deal for Montrealers. Most of us know of a person that attends Dawson College and the fear spread like wildfire. When a psychopath that holds up a school full of 16 to 18 year olds - I consider it a big deal. Especially in an area that isn't accustomed to anything like that.

Otherwise it'll be like "Hahaha your parents and two of your grandparents died! Ho ho ho! lolz @ you" etc.

And that's just unpleasant.
