Sometimes a short letter to the editor says it so well...

The president keeps proclaiming we are "at war" with a group that "hates our way of life." Questions: Why are our borders still open? Why have we not raised car mileage standards? Why are our airplanes still vulnerable to missile attacks? Why are our ports still unprotected? Why are our armed forces stretched to the limit? The answer seems to be we lack the money for these protections. Next question: Why has Bush pushed for and gotten five tax cuts?

Final question: Are the only sacrifices we are asked to make for this "war" our freedoms and civil liberties?

I've been trying to come up with a way to shorten this to a bumper sticker:
If freedom isn't free, why do the rich need tax cuts? Don't think I can get it any shorter, but I think it's too long for a bumper sticker.

How about:

TAX CUTS DO NOT SUPPORT FREE?DOM

That's pretty good. I think I may use that.

How about, and you may need to remember the Clinton/Bush race for this to make sense, "It's the stupidity, stupid?" I know it's a different tack on the tax/freedom thing but I would have run with that if I were Kerry. ;)

Require all vehichles to be Hummers. Problem solved. You might even be able to fit another sentence even.

Some comic said not long ago that at Bush family gatherings there's probably talk going around that maybe they should have gone with the smart brother, Jeb. But be fair, being President is hard work, it's work that's ... well, hard.

One bumper sticker I saw said, "Friends Don't Let Friends Vote Republican." You could go with one that says, "Voting Republican Is Like Voting Your Boss A Raise."

You could fit this thread one them.
