After the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Gary Weddle began following the news so closely he forgot to shave. After a week he decided not to shave until Osama bin Laden had been caught or killed.
I found this very curious, especially with the way bearded men are generally treated in the news. I have to question whether or not that was the real motivation for him not shaving, but I do know men who grow out beards often give a very concrete reason (e.g., "God told me that I should stop using razors") which, although seemingly irrational, gives every sign of seriousness.

my parents keep reminding me that i 'look like the type to get searched at airports' :(
as Bill Bailey said "i hate going to airports. they hate hippies... 'oi you! yes, you with the beard and long hair!' because they assume if you've adopted that look you've also adopted a certain kind of lifestyle. and they're usually..... correct. so they looked through my bag and found a kazoo... just an ordinary kazoo (http://www.aues21.dsl.pipex.com/images/metalKazoo.jpg), but the bloke obviously thought it was some kind of drug-taking paraphenalia. i guess you could put the pot in there, light this bit and put you finger there.... oh... yeah! :D"

Silly guy. He's gonna get special attention at airports due to the beard.:p
Seriously though, I don't think OBL will be caught anytime soon, if at all he gets caught/killed. He is probably browsing NSG in some safehouse in/around Waziristan.

I think OBL's capture depends on the outcome of the US mid-term elections. If the party in power takes a beating, we'll be seeing Osama on the news sometime around convention time in '08.
