Your favourite woman?

Cabra West

As I keep reading the "Your favourite weapon" thread as "your favourite woman", I thought I might add to my own confusion by opening this thread.

Who is your favourite woman (or women)?

For me, it's my best friend Christiane. I've known her since we both were 3 years old, and despite the fact that we now live in different countries, we still have a lot of contact and visit regularly. There not a single person in the world who knows me better than she does :)

Out of the women I don't know personally, I think it has to be Artemisia Gentileschi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemisia_Gentileschi) ...

Besides myself?

My mom is right up there. She's currently involved in a really nasty case in which a millionaire asshole has raped his daughters, and he's now using very high-priced lawyers to harass my mother because she is testifying for the prosecution (she's a therapist who has been seeing one of the daughters). Most of her collegues wouldn't even take on the case because of how messy it would get. My mom is a badass, though, and she's standing her ground because she's just that awesome.

i would have to say amy goodman and mya angilo. neither of whome i have the slightest idea what they look like. and i'm not saying i'd want to have to live with either of them or anyone else male or female either.
ursula k leguine would have to be one of them too.

just as my favorite man would have to be mahandus k ghandi.

as for wives or mothers, if either of mine wanted to make this list they would have to stop trying to coerce me into equating thoughtlessness with love.

there was someone once, who loves horses the way i love trains. i wish i could have married her if anyone. life didn't work out that way.

Favorite woman I know now? Well, I am marrying her in three months.

Favorite female non-human? Hmmm...either my cat or my dog.

Favorite historical woman? Argfa...tough choice. The hard part of it is that, of the women in politics, I don't often agree with them politically, such as Margaret Thatcher. And I can't pick Eleanor Roosevelt, since my fiancee claims her as her favorite (and frankly, I happen to be an FDR admirer...) I'll just say Joan of Arc; she got a raw deal.

My wife, Sheila. I'm pretty fond of my sister, too. :)

Of those I don't know, hmm ... I recently discovered Barbara Stanwyck, who, besides being a terrific actress, appears to have been a genuinely good person despite Hollywood. And Teddy Roosevelt's daughter, Alice, for saying, "If you haven't anything nice to say, come sit by me." (TR, after being interrupted in the Oval Office three times by Alice and threatening to throw her out the wondow, said, 'I can either run the country or I can attend to Alice, but I cannot possibly do both.'" And Harper Lee, for writing that wonderful book, oh, and I'm sure there are lots more.

Good thread, Cabra. :D

Well, I am Milhouse to Bottle's Lisa...Bottle rocks...(sorry, that made me chuckle...)

For realzise, um-I guess Stacy. She was a friend of mine during my first attempt at college. She was a voice major who could switch back and forth from opera to folk and was just geniunely nice, pleasent person. She was the first person I met where "honest" and "just speak m y mind" wasn't code for "I'm an attention whoring asshole." She'd just say anything and sometimes it wasn't flatering but she wasn't trying to be mean and would get flustered when it was. And it was never really that mean at all.

She loved VWs and got me into them. I had a 914 at the time that was a total rattrap and the only reason it ever ran was because she liked nothing better than to wrench on it in her spare time, when she wasn't pulling off massive projects with her small fleet of beetles. She swapped engines on two bugs in an afternoon in like she was switching out legos. And she could pack even my tiny 914 full of stuff so that when she unpacked it looked like she was reaching into another dimension. To come out to the garage and see a great pair of legs sticking out from underneath my car while she belted Puccini was pretty cool.

I keep saying was, she's still alive. She's with her husband in SoCal raising three kids and I still talk to her now and then. She's about the coolest person I've ever met.

Except for Gonzo, but that goes without saying...

I think she will, because I think the defense has to be pretty desperate to be going after my mom. They're trying to smear her by implying that her resume has falsified information, but she's one of the best and most respected therapists in the state. I'm not even exagerating when I say that (yet another reason I think she kicks ass), so you know they're really reaching when they try to attack her that way. They've got nothing else going for them except the hope that their scare tactics will get her to drop the case or refuse to testify.

They don't know her very well. :D

I have to include my mom, of course. She's not still around, but she was an awesome scientist who discovered two new species of birds in the amazon jungle, fought for the survival of wildlife and so forth.

I have managed to know more than a couple of awesome women. I used to help to produce a show about the stories of marvelous and heroic women, some of them almost epic, and some of the stories of the participants were awesome. Want to hear just a pair of stories?

A woman from Panamá, she survived the treatment of Noriega's "dignity" militias for two weeks without telling them the location of the hideout of his son. She was both emotionally and physically scarred, but made her torturers fail.

Another from Ecuador, she lost her two arms after she managed to turn an old VW that was crushing her little one's leg after an earthquake. Her pull was so strong that she ripped apart her own muscles, damaging them so badly that the doctors had to amputate them. I have never seen a more proud woman in my life.

Two more from here, Venezuela. One foiled a bank robbery after one of the felons stumbled, fell and lost his shotgun. She picked it up, blasted the second assailant's kneecaps and scared the fallen one until police arrived. The other one, this one a granny, managed to hit a demented guy firing a gun at the crowd she was in, with the flag pole she was carrying, managing to disarm him while he was placing a new magazine in the gun.

And Bottle's mom, too. That story would be one of my favorite coverages.

Let's not forget myself. Right now I AM my personal favourite.
