Poster sized ballot papers?!?

Hey everyone!

So today we had local elections around here, and while taking part in the democratic process I couldn't help but notice the size of the ballot papers.

All in all we had color-coded ballot papers in yellow, green, red, and blue, varying in sizes between letter-size, over small poster size, to even bigger, ending in freaking huuuuge.

While I can see a good reason for the ballot papers to be as big as they were (elderly should be able to read'em, too; enough space to put down all the information/names necessary, etc.) I was wondering how big the papers are in your country?

Here's the only pic I found on the net that gives you an impression of the size...

In the UK, ours are a single A5 sheet (148x210mm).

Mmh. That's almost cute :D

Here it ranged from A4 to A2 I guess.

What about others? I'm pretty sure that you do have elections, and some of you are even old enough to participate?!?

Be glad. At least you don't have to fold'em up half a dozen times to fit into the ballot box. And I had to shake two out of four really good for all the paperwork to set and me being able to actually cast my vote ;)

But I did have to vote early, since I'm out of the country now and will remain so until well after next Sunday. But last I heard, the Greens are at a projected 14% :D

:p Good!
2/3rds of my vote went Social Democratic, the other 3rd Green - and for the mayor we have to go back on the 24th to give it another shot.

So, what do the ballots around the world look like?

Okay, the vivid participation in this thread only leaves me with one conclusion: People don't care about democratic elections. Either they've never been to one, can't remember what it was like, or they were too young to be able to.

More "meh" for today. Why do y'all hate freedom so much? :p

Ours in the UK are tiny. At the last Genera Election we had the amazing choice between 5 candidates; three identical Liberal/Labour/Tory clones, a eurosceptic and a neo-nazi. The agony of choice...

The paper bit looks like a receipt from a cash register, but the ballot is electronic.

I know. I certified the damn machines. 1400 of 'em.

Well, at least you can vote, right?

You mean you tinkered with all of them to do your bidding?

I don't know, I wouldn't really trust those machines. Then again, trusting machines is the only way I get to my money, so I guess it ain't too bad, right?

How many names are you supposed to put on an A2 ballot paper? I think ours (Switzerland) are about A5 as well.

I dunno - like the top ten of each party and a circle right next to their name. Big print, though! And the ballot paper, like I said, was fucking huuuge. Regional elections with 3 votes - you can either vote the party (parties, split voting) or even split your votes among the different people on the ballot.

That's why I was wondering about other countries' ballot papers.

Noooo. I don't like'em too much :( (But the paper is indeed very thin - so the chances are good to get one!)
