I'll skip over the ones I like and only comment on the ones I've never heard or dislike.
65daysofstatic, Apocalyptica, AstroQueen, The Black Keys, The Butterfly Effect. Corporate Avenger, Electric Wizard, Fu Manchu, Grief, Mastodon, Mr. Bungle, Pelican, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and TISM I haven't heard anything by. There were a few that I've only heard a few songs by, and for the most part liked. The rest that I haven't mentioned I am a fan of.
The Doors - I like "Break On Through", but on "Light My Fire", the band sounds like...well, like they need a fire lit under them.
Down - I'm not certain if Pepper Keenan would balance out the irritation I feel towards Phil Anselmo.
Led Zeppelin - Meh. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.
Pantera - Just a general lack of quality here. "Walk", for instance, is a song that Biohazard would have written as a B-side.
Pink Floyd - See my reaction to Led Zeppelin. If you like early Pink Floyd, I hear the 13th Floor Elevators were highly influential on them.
Rage Against the Machine -ZDLR's voice is growing on me; I'm not nearly as irriated by it as I used to be. Perhaps I may like them someday.
I imagine you've heard most of these, but I'll name 26 that weren't on your list anyway:
Anti-Flag
Bikini Kill
Concrete Blonde
Dead Boys
Extreme Noise Terror
Fluffy
The Gits
Hoodoo Gurus
I Mother Earth
Jack Off Jill
Killing Joke
Local H
Motörhead
Napalm Death
Obituary
The Plasmatics
Pink Fairies
Quintaine Americana
Repulsion
Sebadoh
Therapy?
Voivod
Wilco
X
Yob
You Am I
(Naturally, these aren't all the bands I like, just one from most letters.)

Far too many bands for a reply in my opinion.

Then why bother in the first place?
To warn you?
The Doors - I like "Break On Through", but on "Light My Fire", the band sounds like...well, like they need a fire lit under them.
"Light My Fire" is easily the weakest track on that album. I don't *dislike* it; but it certainly drags on a bit too much.
Down - I'm not certain if Pepper Keenan would balance out the irritation I feel towards Phil Anselmo.
I can understand that. I often think it'd be better if it were only for a different vocalist.
Led Zeppelin - Meh. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.
Funny; i'm not sure why so many people hate them. :p
Pantera - Just a general lack of quality here. "Walk", for instance, is a song that Biohazard would have written as a B-side.
Again, Phil Anselmo can get on my nerves too. But if i'm in the right mood, I can enjoy it.
I imagine you've heard most of these, but I'll name 26 that weren't on your list anyway:
Those i've heard, I do indeed like. :)
To warn you?
Meh. If I limited it to a certain genre and thus reduced the size, i'm sure someone would whinge about that too.

They're both Australian bands, I don't think they are very big internationally...

What a fantastic and strangely unknown band they are (at least on this side of the pond). I even still like them when they drift away from their Avengers-influenced punk and start playing about with C&W. Rarely do you get a band with two such distinctive and fine singers.

The Spinto Band - dunno
System of a Down - Their first album is great. Everything else is okay (although I used to really like Toxicity back in the day, I grew out of it). Fun live show, though.

I've edited as to what I have heard.
Alice in Chains -Not keen
Black Sabbath - Bits are ok, Ozzy's a good frontman, but can't sing for shit
Butthole Surfers -ok
Cathedral - good
The Clash - Good
Corrosion of Conformity - good
Cream - good stuff, but not my taste really
The Doors - lights my fire!
Faith No More - they rock!!!
Led Zeppelin - meh
Mastodon - so so
Mr. Bungle - saw them live - it was brilliant! (got crushed against steel (non-padded) barriers and chest/stomach hurt for a week!)
Nirvana - brilliant
Pantera - One of my fav metal bands (5 minutes alone rocks!)
Pink Floyd - not too keen
Pitchshifter - great band - excellent live!
Placebo - suck ass big style - saw them get booed off the stage and laughed my ass off!
Public Enemy - good for their day
Queens of the Stone Age - don't like at all
Rage Against the Machine - Tom Morello's one of my guitar idols RATM Rocks!
Sepultura - bloody brilliant! (esp Chaos A.D album)
Smashing Pumpkins - Like some hate some, was good live until I was thrown out of wembley arena!:D
Soundgarden - boring
Stone Temple Pilots - ok
Tool - excellent!
Weezer - OMG I'd so like to pwn 'em
My Additions: Dark Tranquility, Megadeth (Rust in Peace era), Early Metallica (not the pop they put out now!), RHCP, Downset (like a bit), Slipknot, Stone Sour, Slayer, Carcass
All the heavy metal is good, as is all the miscellaneous newer metal/grunge (Tool, (listening to Tool right now) Queens of the Stone Age, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against The Machine, Nirvana, etc.)
I have to disagree on Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. I think they are two very awesome bands, and they are in the same category (for me) as Metallica, Iron Maiden, Shinedown, and Bruce Springsteen.

Gave The Clash to my Sis...
I pretty much hate Tool, but traded an extra copy of Californication i had.

Amorphis - Excellent; I saw them live.
In Flames - All right, I hear their earlier stuff is really good, but I've only heard their newer stuff.
Machines of Loving Grace/The Machines - Good band.
Ministry - One of the ten best bands ever; saw them live, too.
Theatre of Tragedy - Good band; I plan to buy more of their albums. Are Liv Kristine's non-ToT albums any good?
The Minutemen - Highly underrated band.
Fugazi - Good band.
Dinosaur Jr. - Good band, but Sebadoh is better.
Agnostic Front - Good band; saw them live.
Black Flag - Good band; I think Rollins gets too much credit, though.
Chumbawamba - Sadly, they'll be known for their one hit as opposed to their politics.
Bad Religion - Excellent band.
Korkiplaani - Just bought one of their albums; I like it.
Souxie and the Banshees - Good band.
Jawbox - Good band.
Bikini Kill - Excellent band.
I take it someone's a fan of the D.C. punk scene?

I take it someone's a fan of the D.C. punk scene?
Yeah. LA and New York always strike me as having gotten too violent and too drugged-out to produce a lot of really wonderful work (although Black Flag, the Minutement, Bad Religion, and The Descendants were all from LA), while DC managed to constantly and quietly reinvent punk.
It doesn't hurt that my hometown never had a good Punk band (and I mean ever. The best Punk Band to come out of the region was nearly 60 miles south of here and they spent more time in DC than here) to boast of, and the last place I lived before I came here was outside of DC.

Oh, by the way, Kanabia, the first two Trouble albums will be released here on October 10th.
*jealous*You haven't seen them? I imagine you will; they are a European band, and European bands tend to tour Europe much more often than they tour here.
*double jealous*Now, Ministry I could see you not seeing, as they're from the U.S. and might not get to Europe often.
The stuff I've heard (which isn't much), I didn't like. At all.Oh, really? Kanabia might like them, they're doomy, but you don't especially care for doom, so I could see you not liking them.

Yeah, the problem with "European" tours is that the UK is often forgotten :( Either that, or they only play in London.

Not playing London seems odd, though, wouldn't that be one of the better places to play? Or is there some reason exclusive to London, you think?

They only play London, nowhere else in the UK. Which is useless for me, being in the North (and too lazy to travel :p)

I probably shouldn't complain too much, I am in a pretty good location for gigs. Just that the gigs I really really want to go to don't happen here :p

Not a good enough excuse... I saw them in Nottingham, at Rock City. The "Sphinctour" tour, I think that was.
Unbelievable awesome.... an 11 minute version of Scarecrow with two harmonica solos, Al in his 'Gary-Oldman-as-Dracula' outfit... goth-girls in black-dyed-wedding-dresses in the crowd. One of the best gigs I've seen.
Rasselas
13-09-2006, 15:15
Do you ever travel for them?
If they're within driving distance, yeah. Liverpool, Leeds, Nottingham, Rotherham (I didn't even know where that was til I had to go there). Travelling to London is problematic because firstly I don't have any money, and secondly it would most likely involve an overnight stay, which would interfere with uni classes.
