Topics for English conversation

I need topics to discuss for an English conversation group since we are always coming to the same topics we can not answer since our political positions change too much. Can you help me brainstorm?

We are from Germany, the United States with some people from different nations like Korea, Spain or Russia. There are many Christians, but some Atheists and Apatheists. Virtually all political positions are among us: communists, conservatives, moderated positions, the person who wants to replace capitalism by a weird technocratic system.

The future of work and certain ethical issues have been discussed over and over so far, also the weird person mentioned above often introduced "techy" topics.

Hmm, English discussion group, but you guys come from multiple nations? How about discussing Esperanto? Silliness versus supposed universality. It could be an interesting debate.

And oddly enough, I haven't heard the term Apatheists before.

I used to run English Converation groups - What I did was to raid the BBC site for anything that may relate to the lives of some of the group, or that was in the current news for the country concerned. There was always something - every week. Sport, cultural differences, legal systems, right and wrong, education systems are always good for an hour of discussion.

We had a German Stammtisch at my Uni in Cottbus, where we'd just chat in German and drink alcohol. That's a fun and effective way to learn a language.

Esperanto might be an interesting topic...

Apatheists don't care whether a God exists or not.

Ya I guessed.

So is it a parallel term to agnostic (i.e., can you be one without the other) or are they analogous?

Not quite parallel, while Agnostics still care about God since doubting is an act of caring, apatheists just are neither interested nor see it as important topic.
