Could this be it? Is the moment I've been waiting for like 5 years comming? StarCraft was the best game ever and Brood Wars was even better.

GC 2006: StarCraft 2 Hints Dropped?
Is StarCraft 2 currently in the works? What other titles does Blizzard have stashed away for both PC and console?
by Tal Blevins

August 24, 2006 - While our meeting with Blizzard Chief Operating Officer Paul Sams today at the German Games Convention mainly focused on The Burning Crusade, the upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft, we did ask him about what the future holds in store for Blizzard, and specifically about StarCraft 2.

"StarCraft is my absolutely favorite game of all time," Sams told us. "As you probably already know, there is no doubt that we will continue the StarCraft and Diablo franchise, and trust me, I will be the happiest person in the world when we announce StarCraft 2."

While Sams wasn't ready to spill the beans just yet, he did say Blizzard "will have a major product announcement in 2007," and that Blizzard was currently working on at least three other unannounced titles at the moment.

In terms of what these games could be, we asked if they would fall in line with the major success Blizzard has had with World of Warcraft. "I want to be clear that we're not just content to be an MMO company," Sams explained. "Some other companies get into the role of making just MMOs, but Blizzard lets the developers pick what they want to work on, and it's not all MMOs."

When asked about StarCraft: Ghost, Sams said that it was on indefinite hold, but that Blizzard wasn't averse to exploring further console development in the future. "We've been up to MS and they've been at our office talking about Vista and 360," Sams said, "and we're certainly excited about some of the tools they have to offer in the console world as well as with Vista and DirectX 10. However, with our own online gaming service, we're going to pick and choose what we want to use; we're going to protect Battle.net and make sure Battle.net ranks supreme."

I'm gonna guess that the 2007 announcement is not gonna be Starcraft 2.

I look forward to it, but honestly, Warcraft III was so messy with its lame hero system and its tiny army sizes that Im worried they'll do something similar with SC2.

Ah, but that's just it. Even without the ... grammar mistake... it is a revealing comment which I felt quotable. Don't worry, I'll find something better sometime.

I have my doubts. We've waited so long I just don't think I can trust that it's on its way now. I really hope they get a good plot together for it, if they ever do make it. The worst thing they could do is make a sequel with a bad or no plot.

Blizzard needs to get off their asses and realize that if they don't make Starcraft II soon, they're going to lose the most important fanbase for it: South Korea. The Koreans will eventually get over Starcraft, and if Blizzard screws up and fails to take advantage of the market, it'll be seen as a very poor decision indeed by the company executives. What would happen to Blizzard then...who knows? I'd suspect mass firing, to be honest.

As for why Ny Nordland is looking forward to it...I suspect he's eager to have more SCVs to bully around. After all, can't let the darkies be important people, can we? I hate racists.

I only recently picked up Starcraft (2-3 months ago) I was shocked at how much it copied of CC: Red Alert, but I thought it was really well balanced. I would like to see what blizzard can come up with.

I was 11 when it was out first time. I played it when I was around 14...Played it all again last year as well...I'm ready for SC2.

Didn't they already do something like that? (mass firing)?

Though I think the Korean fanbase is gonna stay fairly loyal anyway. I mean they still have OG starcraft and lets face it, that IS a good game. Balanced, but allowing for depth of strategy; simple interface, easy to run.

Heh. I was gonna say something about how he might view it as a metaphor for real life, in which he sees other humans as being non-human aliens to be conquered. But I didn't want to offend his sensibilities. :p

meh, I never got the hang of starcraft, I'd always use that comsat scan thing the terrans have, and find out my enemy has like 2.87x10 to the 14th power hydrolisks

Ah they are easy. Use a nuke. Navigating a ghost close to enemy territory is so fucking exciting. Or round up Goliaths on front with tanks on siege mode to destroy them while they are coming. Or simply air units.

I suppose you're right in regards to the Korean fanbase. I just figure that no fanbase will remain loyal forever to a video game. Sure, we may have fanbases that have been loyal to other media, such as the Trekkies and Warsies, but I would think a video game is different, that's all. Eventually, they will find a better game to devote their time to.

As for Ny Nordland: I don't care about offending his sensibilities. He's made his position clear. I was just stating fact.

Pyotr: You need to work on developing more quickly. One of the first--and best--ways of doing that is building approximately ten additional SVCs at the start of every game. Devote seven of those to minerals, three to gas, and use the remaining four for various tasks, such as building the necessary barracks and other buildings. I find that by establishing a solid economy and backing that up with swift military expansion, I can often get around the quick and easy Zergling rushes, as well as the numbers issue when it comes to the Zerg.

Nuking is not an easy task, however. Any human opponent will know if you're trying to use a nuke. The instant they hear "Nuclear Launch Detected" they will stop ANYTHING they are doing and seek out the Ghost with that little laser. As a matter of fact, I usually use this tendency to my advantage, exploiting their lack of attention to their armies to devestate them with precision attacks and superior numbers. I lose the Ghost and a nuke or two in the exchange, but I find it's better to use them as distractions, as they're just not viable enough against humans to be worthwhile as actual weapons.

Ny Nordland's got a non-race obsessed thread? Way to go!

*claps for Ny Nordland*

Anyway, I'm doubting they'll actually do a Starcraft 2. If they really were ever interested in doing it, they would have already. It's been years, and we're tired of this shit.

Though World of Starcraft would be cool....

No way. No company in their right mind will turn away from a cash cow like Starcraft 2.
The real question is: will they do it well? Probably not.

*shudder* No, it wouldn't. WoW is lame. WoS would be worse...

Of course they'll do it. Read what the owner says in the OP. And they'll do it great unless they want terror attacks to Blizzard by fans. And it's been 8 years for god's sake.

I don't think so... sure, the fanbase will drop off (with or without a SC2) over time, but it will still have a good cult following at the very least. I think many Koreans see it as something like chess... not just another game, but THE game of online competitive strategy.

I could be out of date though, its been a while both since i played and since i heard anything about the Starcraft Phenomenon in Korea.

Well I really hope they come out with a Starcraft 2 game. The Ghost one was bad, but i am looking forward to more Blizzard strategy games. :D What's up with the people who hate Warcraft III? That was an awesome game and the hero system made it really cool. It also makes the online games better b/c they can have your char get better. Plus it beats the hell (in the campaigns) out of the Starcraft hero system where you have to hide your hero in a secure corner of your base for fear that they will be killed and you'll lose the mission.

The hero system made it suck.

If I wanted my character to get better in multiplayer, I'd play an "RPG" (A title I don't understand, since there's no discernable role-playing...)

Plus it beats the hell (in the campaigns) out of the Starcraft hero system where you have to hide your hero in a secure corner of your base for fear that they will be killed and you'll lose the mission.
I do that in WC3 anyway. And WC3 lacked the waves of zerglings, hydralisks, marines, etc., which was a major component of what made it so freakin' cool. Watching 2 or 3 super-powerful guys beat on each other is freakin' boring. Watching a wave of zerglings crash into a line of zealots, or a squad of marines desperately making a stand, is awesome.

I didn't like heroes in WC3 because of their nature. They became all powerful, and I like wars that are about armies fighting each other... not a couple badasses flanked by a handful of meat shields.

It made for an interesting single player game yes, but not enough to balance out how un-war-like it made it all feel to me.

Another thing I didnt like about the WC3 heroes is all the stupid items you have to manage. Lame.
