Steve Jobs vs Bill Gates

Truth be told as a science geek I like neither of these two uber-business hawks, but if I had to make a choice between them I'll pick Bill Gates by a hair's breadth.

One main reason is because Bill Gates treats his business strictly like a business, whereas Steve Jobs weaves in more feel-good rhetoric while making tons of money without returning a cent to society.

Another reason is because Bill Gates doesn't run Microsoft like a one man ego trip.

If you want a detailed comparison of Jobs vs Gates, here's my article (http://freshbrainz.blogspot.com/2006/09/steve-jobs-vs-bill-gates.html) on it.

Who would you vote?

A choice for what?

Biggest dickhead?

Which would win a kung-fu fight?

What are choosing amongst them for?

Hmm.... Hmm...

Well, I have an unending detest for everything that Bill Gates is, but I also hate Apple because its existence makes me have to do a lot more work...

I say we put them both in a room, tie their wrists together, give them knives, and let them fight it out.

Yeah, that'll work.

Who will win in knifefight? :D

I'll start taking bets.

Jobs would dice that pencil-neck geek, Gates.

Not so fast!

As the knife swings towards Bill, he puts up the "Blue Screen of Death!"

Escapes with +100 points.

Considering I'm a mac user, and the fact that bill gates' entire carreer consists of copying whatever apple's latest innovation is, I'm gonna go with good ol Steve Jobs.

Although I do agree with you, [THE WOZ] > (Steve Jobs + Bill Gates)

If you put them in a room they would just hug and talk of old times. Remember Jobs and Gates were university room mates, and are still close friends as is mentioned about once every 6 months in the news. Not Microsoft not interfering in anyway by bringing out a competitor to ipod or such. Gates I believe even owns a small portion of Apple as a stock.

Then you will absolutely hate Billy's latest copycat trick - the Argo! (http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2006/07/11/more_details_on_Microsofts_iPod_killer_-_Argo/)

Yes though I'm a PC user, definitely Woz for me. Love the man, love his spirit. If I put Woz on the polls no one else would get any votes. :D

Room mates? Jobs (Reed) and Gates (Harvard)?

Anyway I believe "friendship" among business moguls is a rather spin-doc affair. Best friends help drive each other out of business. :D

Saying that Apple innovates is like saying Microsoft writes bug-free software. They've been a stagnant company since Steve left and had the Pepsi guy running it.

Seriously... what has Apple done? Adopted Linux? Made pretty plastic cases? Gotten into the music business?

Hardly impressive for a firm, especially one that went from 20% of the PC market in the late 80s and early 90s to 2% today.

Awww.... Isn't that sweet.

But if they were in a fight they would throw outdated software at each other.

But Steve Jobs would win because he's cooler, and his salary is 1$ a year.
But Bill Gates is cool because he does so much charity work.

Eh, the personality cult built up around Steve Jobs is far more terrifying then the god-like marketing power of Microsoft. Gates has got 97.5% of the market solidly in his pocket. Sure, Apple's 2% may be willing to line up to blow Steve, it's still just 2% and they're still just blowjobs.

There really isn't much of a contest, no matter what you thing of Bill, Steve and apple will always be second best. Neither of them are truly original thinkers so you can't totally fault MS for ripping anyone off. Plus, Apple computers aren't really that much more secure then Windows PCs... There are just so few of them that no one actually bothers writing viruses and the like. Someone writing Malware for an Apple is like the Basque Separatists attacking Luxembourg. What the hell would be the point?

"You're ripping us off!", Steve shouted, raising his voice even higher. "I trusted you, and now you're stealing from us!"

But Bill Gates just stood there coolly, looking Steve directly in the eye, before starting to speak in his squeaky voice.

"Well, Steve, I think there's more than one way of looking at it. I think it's more like we both had this rich neighbor named Xerox and I broke into his house to steal the TV set and found out that you had already stolen it."

I laughed aloud. I like that.

Ipods, Imacs (putting whole computer in one unit and not seperate moniter etc) Superior OS, Superior graphics processing power, and actually putting fashion fun and design into computers. Less then 2% of the world have Mercedes Benzes too but does that mean they suck because they have a small market share compared to Ford?

Ipods, Clever marketing and presentation, nothing more.

Imacs (putting whole computer in one unit and not seperate moniter etc)
Years back I recall that my family had a computer that did that. The screen was grayscale, but it was all one unit. Hardley a revolution. Oh, and my computer is like that too. And it's easier to transport than a Mac.
Superior OS,
Matter of opinion.

Superior graphics processing power, and actually putting fashion fun
Fun? What about the real fun of computers? GAMES

Yes, but Mercedes Benzes are much more expensive than Fords. That is not the case with Apple and Microsoft.

Matter of opinion.
When Vista comes out that will be true, but as of now, Mac has a bunch of features that Windows does not out of the box. By the time Vista ships, Mac will have a new version with more features(one rips of Linux, the other Windows).

Fun? What about the real fun of computers? GAMES
There are plenty of games that are being ported to the Mac despite its lame market share. But, games are developed by third party developers, so it is hardly Macs resonsibility to have games. Besides, it is windows that tries to be the gaming system, Mac is aimed at n00bs and graphics.

False myth.

It's kind of hard to explain without using technical language, but think of it this way, Windows is a free democratic country where you can carry around nuclear bombs legally without arousing suspicion. It has a governmental system which intertwines with as much red tape as humanly (cyborgly?) possible. Whenever someone decides that this particular district has to bite the dust, he walks up with his nuke, leaves it around, fizzles all the security cameras there may have been, GTFO of there, and detonates it. The government then takes too long to recognize that a nuke just went off somewhere, and by the time the nuke reaches supercriticality, the entire country is fucked.

Apple computers are like a fascist father knows best state. The government needs express written approval of it's leader (you) to do anything which could potentially jeapordize the nation. When someone tries to set off a nuclear reaction, the government is like "supreme leader, hast thou set up one nuclear reaction? Wouldst thou likest to?" and you click no. The nuke fizzles and everyone is happy.

Windows is much more "automated" in critical respects, mostly because half the time it's microsoft who uses these holes in their software to do things like spy on what customers buy and all that (for "statistical purposes" according to microsoft). While on OSX, mundane things are even easier, but when it comes to setting up a nuclear reaction, you can't do it from outside, and its even harder from the inside.

So for example, the code for XP of deletion of hard drive is (in the console)
rmdir c:/ (don't try this at home, kids!). It will probably ask you if you are sure you want to do this, but its much easier to get around that than it would be in a mac. In OSX you would need to authenticate as the root user to even be able to try to use that kind of commands, and then you'd have to go through a maze of permissions and fiddles.

Bottom line, macs are safer. If you have any doubts about what I said, do your own reasearch.

In recenr times IMO he's been redeeming himself through philantrophy on a large scale. Check out the "Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation" - Bill has pledged to give away about 95% of his networth to charity before he kicks the bucket.

Kutcher?

As for Machintoshes actually being less susceptible than Windows...I refuse to believe that. No Machintosh I've ever used has been any good at stopping someone from screwing with it from the outside via a virus or anything. It is true that there simply isn't a market in the world for crackers and hackers to write virii for Machintoshes. They're worthless, as far as I'm concerned.

Ahem. Did you even read my post?

It has to do with the way its made. the foundations of wndows (DOS) are much easier to fuck with than the foundations of OSX (unix). Its like, windows is a wooden building, while OSX is cement with steel bars and supporting beams underground. when it's time to blow em up, you can just torch the wooden building, while you need to do a multi-step demolition process for the cement one.

I did read your post, and I say it's bullshit. Propaganda by PC haters who can't stand the EVIL MICRO$OFT!!1! I just tested out your little theory on the one Machintosh I had. Since I don't use it for anything, I didn't care whether the harddrive was formatted or whatnot. Did it in all of two seconds without any bandying about.

(I'll be honest: I don't like Microsoft or Bill Gates. But in my personal experience, I've found PCs to be far more useful than any Machintosh I've ever used. Fact is, even if Machintoshes WERE much more stable overall, it wouldn't matter. They're just simply not that useful. PCs are much more adaptable, customizable, and altogether better than Machintoshes. Now, if you can give me an operating system made by Machintosh fit for PCs, or even better, Machintosh built computers that can match the capabilities of PCs, then I'll be all over it. Until then, they're just not useful apart from niche areas such as ridiculously intensive graphics work, like that done by Industrial Light and Magic, for instance. For the average home user, a Machintosh is far less useful than a PC. And that, my friend, is what matters.)
