Want to be a character in a novel or short story?

Now you can buy your way in. (http://cgi3.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=auctioncause) 14 authors have agreed to put your name into a novel, short story, or comic book/graphic novel, if you win the bidding, that is.

All the money goes to the First Amendment proect, and there are some big names in fiction included--Lorrie Moore, Carl Hiassen, Chris Ware, Kevin Anderson, etc. So would you be willing to pony up a few bucks to be immortalized in someone's book?

I'd do it, but I'm planning on being immortalized by my own book (prays to the gods of first book contests, sacrifices chicken).

I would only do it if it was by Terry Pratchet, or Douglas Adams. One is dead, and the other's on his way, so I doubt I ever would.

If I weren't facing my tuition in a week, I sure would love to.

For the cause, yes. Otherwise I just try to be really interesting around authors and hope I end up as a Dean Moriarty.

Or get my own films made...

..but as of late that's just so I don't have to do another damn reality show...

Hmmm...I've always wanted to be killed off in a novel.

All jokes aside, this is a good cause. If I wasn't the near penniless college student that I am, I would put in a bid in a heartbeat.

Pratchett has done it before. Hogfather is even dedicated to an internet fan.

Is it a bad thing that I have never heard of these authors before...

Not really. They're mostly literary fiction--the closest one to being widely popular is Carl Hiassen. He writes stuff set in south Florida--cop stories I think.

My name is too common for it to be worth putting in a short story or novel :(

Hey waitaminit! Why don't I just team up with everyone that shares my name?! :D

Hasn't this been done before?
I'm certain that Stephen King was part of a charity auction a coupla years back, where the winner got to be 'killed' in his (then) next book.

I am far too magnificent to be confined to the mere pages of a novel; the glory that is me would be far too overwhelming for mere mortals. :D

And I had already put my friends into my own published short stories... for free. So this doesn't really strike me as something I'd want to waste money on. It's simple vanity.
