Do you believe the definition of marriage should include homosexuals?

What if I answer no, but because I reject the notion of marriage as a statist institution in the first place, with no regard to the particular combination of genitalia involved?

Are you against states legally mandating that parents be informed when their underage daughters have abortions?

What if I answer no, but qualify that answer by saying that I voted against said proposal in my own state because it was presented as a constitutional amendment, and the issue in question has nothing to do with defining and instituting the structures of a state government?

I need not even take the test at all, and I already know that i do not fit within O'Reilly's extremely tiny box, one way or the other. Which is just fine.

(edti: Ah, what the heck... "You have some traditional beliefs, but have not committed to either side." My Political Compass and Moral Politics results suggest otherwise Bill. But then those aren't made to depict anyone who even slightly wanders out of your own tiny box as the antichrist incarnate.)

Apparently I've got some traditional beliefs, but I'm not loyal to either side.

My answers:

Question 1: No, Christ no, for the love of all that doesn't suck, no.
Question 2: I don't see why not, it's got nothing to do with me, yes.
Question 3: Fuck yes.
Question 4: Absolutely not! Bush may be incompetent, but the US is still a powerful force for good.
Question 5: No. The 'rents generally have to OK anything else kids do, why should abortion be any different. Fuck, when I was 17 I needed my parents siggy to go with the band to Bowling Green for a concert.

Because parents have no right to compel their children to go through pregnancy.

Because parents have no right to compel their children to go through pregnancy.

Parents force kids to do a whole lot of things that the kid isn't necessarily happy with. Are we going to do away with those things as well?

When they concern a decision like pregnancy, absolutely. And what if the girl in question has been raped by a family member?

If the kid's been raped by a family member, then Child Protective Services has a role to play.

But there are many, many big decisions that parents force kids to deal with. Once again, how is pregnancy any different?

Because it's a question of basic bodily autonomy and the choice will have significance throughout the rest of the child's life.

The only circumstances in which parents are entitled to exercise their authority are when a child in engaging in activities that harm others or that harm herself; the risks associated with abortion are not severe enough to mitigate the loss of freedom any child compelled to go through pregnancy would suffer.

You've still not addressed my concerns about other issues of potentially vital importance. Things like marriage, schooling, that sort of stuff.

Hell, I'm not even arguing for parental consent. I'm arguing for parental notification.

I don't think parents should be entitled to prevent marriage (once the kid is above, say, thirteen) and the argument could be reasonably made that compulsory education is immoral, especially as the students grow older.

Edit: Also, both of those fall under the category of "harming herself."

Hell, I'm not even arguing for parental consent. I'm arguing for parental notification.

All too often, it amounts to the same thing.
