50,000 Words In 1 Month
I recently stubled upon the website (http://www.nanowrimo.org/) of NaNoWriMo: National Novel Writers Month. Between Nov. 1 and 31, participants around the world attempt to write a 50,000 + word novel. Has anyone heard or participated in this or plan to? I'm interested because I'm considering doing this; it sounds like creative fun. Prehaps we could even start something like it on NSG?

I'm interested...but I don't think I'll be able to type that much. Maybe if I had another month...

I only have to collect my posts in a query...
Oh yeah, that thing I signed up for last year but didn't actually do.

Well, 50,000 is the goal, but there's no shame in not managing that!

Can they all be the same word, 50 000 times?
If so, I'm willing, wating and more than ready! (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+V...)
I guess you could, but I wouldn't want to read it...
Why November? I don't know. Isn't every month busy for someone?

#!/usr/bin/perl
for ($num_of_words = 1; $num_of_words <= 50000; $num_of_words++)
{
print "$num_of_words : Word\n";
}
Done.
(edit: Seriously, though, a 4000 word academic paper was difficult enough. 50,000 of creative fiction? http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/sprachlos/speechless-smiley-020.gif )
Added a poll. I'm considering setting this up on the forums.

Lengthy fiction always winds up being a disaster for me. I stick to short stories when I express my creative side.
I'm notorious for sending plot continuity straight to hell when I write anything more than eight pages.

Well, L. Ron Hubbard wrote trash like Battlefield Earth. Same same.

Oh, I would like to give it a shot. Problem is, I'm still lagging behind on writing my 3 term papers... So that's not possible.

Am I interested in doing it? Yes, of course.
Is it likely that I would be able to do it? No, not at all.

Splice them together and add them to the end.

I did it last year, I will be doing it again this year. I was 15,000 words shy last year by Thanksgiving and got distracted and quit though :( I will not quit this time.

It's a lot easier to write fiction than it is an academic work of the same length, IMHO.

I heard about it from my teachers.

Is 50000 really that big? My cousin's friend writes 3000 word essays for uni. 50000 words... isn't that just Harry Potter?

Indeed. I once wrote about 100 pages of story in about two weeks. Not sure what the word count was though.

Yep, definitely true. You don't need to analyse anything; you can just make stuff up off the top of your head.

Whenever I get into one of my writing kicks I can easily go up to 100,000 words a month, so 50,000 shouldn't be a problem. I'll enter. I seriously doubt I'll be any good, but I'll enter.

I rarely can even make myself write at all besides for school. 50,000 words would just be more incentive to avoid it.

Typed? Figure 300 words per page, so 30,000 words. You're more than halfway there. :D

Not for me. I've done both, and can write a fairly decent 4,000 word essay (well, it was only philosophy, but that's close enough) overnight, grinding out 4,000 words of fiction takes me a couple days.
That isn't to say that I haven't tried for it the past 2 years, and I'll try for the 50000 mark again this year. What's life if not an excuse to keep doing the same damn things over again and failing spectacularly everytime?

Actually, according to the official NaNoWriMo rules:
Q. Can I write one word 50,000 times?
A. No. Well... No.
Damn...

yeah, i could take a laptop with me to use on the beach but what with the hot tropical sun, the sand and the likelihood of spilling pina coladas on the keyboard, it just doesnt seem worth the effort....

Oh, wow. I did this last year and it was a blast. I only reached about 44000 before the deadline, if memory serves, so I didn't quite get there.
This year I hope to be able to make the full 50000+!
