that way if the crust sucks we can just eat the toppings right?

Lots and lots of meat is always good... (pepperoni, chicken, spicy beef, pork, smoked sausage, bacon, sausage....)
Spicyness is always good too....
Ham and pineapple...
Chicken and spinach...
Olives, anchovies, capers....
Bolognese works suprisingly well...
As does potato, bacon and creme fraiche....
Egg on pizza is yummy...
Calzones are amazing...

Plain cheese, New York style, thank you very much :D , though I do like the occasional pepperoni-and-onions (well done so the onions crisp a bit) and ham-and-pineapple is also good (never thought of sweet corn with that). Had mashed potatoes once on pizza and it was surprisingly not terrible.

i second the egg! and spiceyness is always good, yes (normal pizza with a spicy chilli oil to drizzle over is awesome). the potato one was great too (surprisingly) and like a small meal in itself
i also third the calzone :D
goat cheese (really its good!) Canadian bacon, black olive, hot sausage (Italian or Cajun) jalapenos and fresh tomato bits added to the bubling cheeese immediately after it is baked.

Yeah, but see, here we have either "normal" salami or that spicy, orange coloured salami (i.e. pepperoni in English) on pizza, and I only like "normal" salami.
And in the US, if my memory isn't toally messing with me, it was ALWAYS called pepperoni, yet wasn't necessarily or even most of the time the stupid spicy orange coloured stuff.

I generally like a variety of cheeses, meats, and vegetables. I like to get a well rounded meal out of my pizza rather than having just a slab of crust with tomato sauce and a bit of cheese and meat. It's healthier and tastier, in my opinion.

Pepperoni here is a kind of sausage that roughly fits the salami catedory here...almost. Basically they will call any red coarse ground sausage that contains whole or mostly whole peppercorns salami and get away with it in the US. Most pepperoni doesnt quite fit that because it is fine ground and often doesnt have identifiable peppercorns. Adding to the confusion about salami here is that there is Salami which is a wet refriherated luncheon loaf type of sausage that is usually more than 4 inches in diameter and typically used for sandwiches and hors douvres plates and there is also dry salami which is unrefrigerated much drier and usually less than 3 inches in diameter. Dry salami is portable without spoiling (espesh with wine and cheese on picnics and camping). Dry salami thinly sliced is what you'll usually get if you ask for salami on pizza here. It's way less spicy than pepperoni.

Pepperonis, but the good kind (by which I mean slightly blackened, grease-filled saucers of death), onions, peppers, and just about any other protein (meat, eggs, etc) except ground beef.
People who put ground beef on their pizzas make Baby Jesus scream like he was being fed through a paper shredder.
Barbecue chicken and red onion, à la CPK, is one of my favourite pizzas. I also like spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms and feta cheese. Or just plain mushrooms and bell peppers.

Like we said, the Japanese have evil, 3V1L ideas as to what constitutes pizza toppings.
And they will often times NOT TELL YOU what's on it until AFTER you take a bite.
And pineapple is one of the best toppings.

so... I get the feeling that you don't like Pineapples... :p
I love pineapples. But don't put them on pizza.
My friends who went to Japan, tried to order a pizza... when they asked (in Japanese) the size of their pizza's they were told...
2 Kilometers in Diameter...
Similar to the students who tell me things like "I'm 175 meters long."
and they also found out that Sea Urchin does not make a good topping for pizza...
hehehehe

Finally, a thread arrives that ive earned a doctorate in.
Tastes vary so much per person that you really cant say one topping is better than something else...
Except anchovies.
Thats just nasty.
Salty, slimy, gritty fishy, oily nastiness....you people who like them should atone for your sin!
So should anyone who thinks theyre too good to tip the poor guy who has to bring you, your pizza.
You people suck all the donkey balls on the planet...
Those poor slobs burn thier cars into the ground, use about 10$ in gas a day, and suffer higher insurance premuims, just to bring you something you were too lazy to come and get yourself.
Pizza is a luxury item.
Its exspensive.
If you cant afford to tip, you cant afford pizza.
If you can afford to blow 20 bucks on one meal, you can afford to give the driver at least a couple of bucks.
The better the tip, the more the driver will appreciate it, and hook you up when you call back next time.
If your porchlight is out, or your house numbers arent clearly visible from the road, say something...

agreed. ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...
though for the tipping thing, we don't tip so much in this country. or in fact hardly at all - you tip when you've had exceptional service; its not expected really. so when i get pizza delivered i have thought about tipping but never have cos it would be kinda weird and the pizza guy usually just drops and runs off again... plus they charge for delivery too.
anyway, will be having pizza tonight so yay! :D

Not sure how much difference there is in pizza delivery in the UK.
Any idea how much they make an hour?
Where I work, the drivers dont get any part of the delivery fee.
Most places have merely added it as a way to increase the price of your pizza, where they used to offer free delivery.
What would you consider "exceptional service"?

i don't know. like, exceptional service in a restaurant where they've been really nice and friendly and helpful. just doing their job doesn't really warrant a tip. just the way it goes in this country

Bah, I hate this! :( :p
Salami is less spicy, cut thinner, but bigger around and usually reserved for cold-cut sandwiches.
Pepperoni is more spicy, cut thicker, smaller around, and usually served on or with something, like on a pizza or with crackers.
Of course, one can eat both plain or together. :)

Sadly, most places dont use swiss, becuase its so exspensive.
They use provolone instead.
I know we do.
Almost anything.
Pineapple is one exception. Ugh.
EDIT-
Toppings disallowed: pineapple, bell pepper, pinapple, potatoes, pinapple, scrambled eggs, pinapple, mayonnaise, pinapple, squid, pinapple, squid ink, pinapple, green salad, pinapple, asparagus, pinapple, broccoli, pinapple, a lot of other horrible stuff that the evil pizzarias here in Japan have attempted to inflict on my pizzas, and pinapple

From the numourus complaints I have heard, it tastes like medication to them. I guess there is a popular child's med that contains ginger root to mask the taste because every Japanese I've fed it to has said the same thing, it tastes like kids' meds.

They don't eat a lot of it, or dairy products period. This is starting to pick up and I can find more cheese in places (it should be noted by more cheese I mean I found something other than pizza cheese and pre-sliced American).

Just to add, J cheese is usually bland processed unidentifiable cheese. It's often advertised as "mild" (an English word J advertisers LOVE to death). Fortunately we have a better selection at the import stores here in Osaka. But for those w/o J experience, think of an Asian market in a fairly homogenious city. You might find a selection of fish sauces, but not on the scale of what you'd find in a market in Bangkok.

Heh, that's funny. I'm German, and rootbeer totally smells and tastes like cough syrup. So that's not only a Japanese phenomenon.
