I couldn't sacrifice either. I love them both so much, choosing one over the other would break my heart.

My father. He's already dead anyway, it won't hurt him anymore.

father, as I'm probably closer to my mum and often go off at the deep end about violence against women - and btw it's a silly question.

Honestly, they are both expendable, can't i get rid of them both in one go?

Clearly the answer is to attempt to save both? That or attack whoever is trying to make me choose, there is always a third option.

Yes take both of mine, they are surplus to requirements.

Obviously, if that happens you just shrug and let the psycho decide.

Not really. If I didn't think that it's wrong to use violence in any form, my father would be dead now.

Ohh this is quite hard. I'm not sure. I would have to have more information on the circumstances. My mother works at home, looks after my sister etc. Dad brings in most of the money so from that point of view my family would be in financial difficulty. In saying that I'm not sure that Dad could look after my sis properly. Its a tough one..

This is going to sound sooo bad, but I'm going for it.

My mother died in a car crash when I was 13, when she was going to pick me up from the conservatory, just because my father had a headache and didn't want to drive.

Back then, I just wished my father didn't have the headache and died instead, not because I hate him, actually I love him so much, but my mother was....just too unique for me. Even now, like 13 ears after that, the thought ocasionally comes to my mind...

I know, I am despicable, but not on purpose...

I think it's more to do with culture - young men (and I think that's what most of us are) are in some degree in competition with their fathers, surely?

Plus different attitude to different genders - neither's nice, but I'd rather protect a woman than a man if I had to choose one and they were equal in all other respects.

Seeing as I never met my father and my mother raised me by herself, the answer is rather simple. My father.

...to save the other: Your mother or father?

Ugh. Tough. I'd rather not choose. My mom is in the hospital now, had a bad stroke and has a growth or big blood clot in one of her heart chambers, about the size of a 50 cent piece. Doctors don't know what it is, and said they've never seen anything like it. On the ultrasound it looks like a freakin hand with long fingers. They've already said they want to perform an autopsy on her when she finally goes on out. My family chose not to put her on a feeding tube. I disagreed.. but anyway. Heavy stuff.

First I've spoken of it outside my family. Just the little bit I shared made me feel better somehow. Thanks for the hug.

Father.

I love him and my mother both, but I know without a doubt that he would choose to die to save her, same as I would to save my wife and the mother of my children.

I hope my son would make the same choice and save his mother.

Hm. My dad has moments where he's pretty cool, and he tends to leave me alone (which is all I really want out of my family)...Mom, on the other hand, is vastly annoying, nags me constantly, makes completely unjustified claims (she accused me of statutory rape last year), and just in general won't leave me alone (I live three hours away, and I still can't get peace).

So yeah, she'd be the one to go.
