Social Security Card Question/Issue

I dunno if this is true or not but my father used to tell me that Social Security Cards are not allowed to have a picture of the card holder. My father told me there was always a big issue about civil rights or something else like that. I just wanted to get some information and facts about why Social Security Cards don't have pictures on them. I want to know so I can argue why we shouldn't wear I.D. badges at school. But that my fight, I just need the Social Security Card info, anybody know what I'm talking about?

I always thought it was because they never changed the design on the cards, and having a picture put on there in the thirties would have been prohibitively expensive.

This is how rights and freedoms slowly erode over time. Old SS cards said "Not To Be Used For Identification".....Some time that was removed. People didn't want the government to know their every move. Only in authoritarian governments did people have identification cards so the government can trace them.

Now the government is talking of putting chips in every baby just like when you adopt of dog at the pound. That way you can be scanned everytime you walk in a store.

Shit, my SS card says "Not to be used for identification."

You're full of shit on that last part there. Sorry, but theres no way the government's pro-tagging babies. Show me evidence, I'll believe it.

I didn't say it was going to happen tomorrow. SS numbers becoming ID cards didn't happen for decades. Several states are demanding a government photo ID in order to vote. Thet's a step. Not having to carry credit cards has been discussed, both with implants and eye scanning. Being able to identify your child if s/he gets lost hes been proposed. After all we do it with dogs. Putting an identification chip in every item we buy has started, helps with inventory, but also allows for scanning of everything you carry as you walk around town as the chip doesn't die as it has no batteries.

No one is going to say, "Let's chip every baby" Just as they don't say, "Let's cookie everywhere people go on the internet." But it has been talked about on the edge and the edge when technically possible seems to come to pass. The people that worried SS numbers would be used for tracing citizens were concidered on the edge. Were they correct?

You know, I have to agree with you, now that I think about it.

SS numbers are already a form of ID. In a few places I've been, its been required to show those as a confirmation to a photo ID.

I have an SS card question too. How can you find out if someone stole your SS #? Because a while back, someone who I was applying a job for said that my # had two person on it.

Privacy is important, and governments must respect it. If they don't, then society topples. That's all.

You can ask the SS administration but there is a catch, if they are not trying to defraud you they won't do much about it. Read a story about a woman who had an illegal immigrant using her number. The illegal needed a number to get a job so just made one up. Since the illegal wasn't doing anything to hurt the lady, (in fact was adding to her earnings, hence larger retirement) they didn't see fit to do anything about it.

Yea, but it's still identity theft, even if it was accidental.

It's called a driver's license. You have to have one even if you don't drive. Everyone just wants your SS number because it is uber idenfitication and the government doesn't give two fucks about protecting people's personal information at all.

your driver's license in not even close to having the same impact as you SS does. I have had two jobs yet and none of them ask for my driver's license number but they all ask for my SS,maybe its because i'm still a minor i dunno but I don't think social security cards/number should be taken lightly. Those little number ID you for who you are.

Only if you let them; and that, gents, is the moral of the story.

SS# is definitely a form of ID. You can't buy anything on credit without it, or anything too valuable, and it is commonly used as identification when you call a credit card company. It is also used when transfering money in excess of $4000.

Until recently and with some companies it is still going on, your health care number was exactly the same as your SS# except they add a "01" or something at the end. Not exactly too secure.

you get the number from birth and it seems to always be asked for, why? I dunno i'm just guessing so people can add stuff to your record. Thats fine with me....I guess. But not a picture social security, what if i get fat, or what if i have a sex chang....nevermind but what if something comes along and phucks up the way you look. I dunno its late and I just don't like the idea, its like wear ID badges in school. only differents is when schools over i take it off but with ur SS you are stuck with it until death, or fire, or they drop the whole idea, or god knows what

Go to your local Social Security office and have them straighten it out.
