Simple, Homer or Peter?
As they are so different, I made Early Homer and Recent Homer two options.

Family Guy has become nothing but mean-spirited low-brow humor, and the basic premise was a rip off of Simpsons. It is just a random string of "Remember that one time I...", or "Remember that one time you...", and then some unrelated mess. All the jokes are drawn out to fill time too.
There used to be great episodes, and I would be glad to watch whenever it came on... but it isn't the same show anymore, and it wasn't that amazing to begin with.
Simpsons has been around forever and is entwined with our culture. It has been stale lately, but not mean-spirited. Everyone would recognize what you mean if you say "D'oh".
Edit: Yea, I admit it, I'm a comedy snob...
Isn't there an option here for early Peter? Family Guy started off as genius, but most of Season 4 has been some of the worst shit I've ever had the misfortune to see.

As a character, Homer is far superior. Peter Griffin is just a comic prop.

Hands up anyone who thought we were talking about an 8th Century BC poet and an apostle?
Anyone?

I'm suprised early Homer is getting so many votes... I guess I was thinking early Homer, as in 1st season Homer, where he didn't have much personality... but I guess people are equating recent Homer to current season, and early to everything before.

Well, I thought of the Poet, but I didn't think of the apostle.

I'm thinking of Homer from the first 60% of the Simpsons run so far.

Well, I was going to work up some sort of response about Ulysses and Luke, but now that is not necessary.

That was my first thought. I couldn't figure out what the fuck Homer and Peter had in common aside from writing, and their writings aren't particularly similar.

Well I was torn but picked Peter because the Family Guy gives me more chuckles per show than the Simpsons, although the Simpsons are still my favorite because they have more cohesive storylines with statements that speak about the culture we are living in where as the Family Guy is just a bunch of references to old movies and tv shows and a partial storyline thrown in but having no real substance.
Peters character is more wide ranging than Homers.
I also thought the OP was talking about the poet and apostle at first and was like wtf?

Why no Middle Homer, like from seasons 5-8? IMO, that's when the Simpsons were best...
But Family Guy has sucked for its entire run... even though I used to like it.

Me to, and I just watched Simspons and family guy in a row...
I like Homer better, but that is more due to that he doesn't have as anoying voice as Peter.

Yes! Middle Homer! That has great stuff like the Navy, New York, garbage, bodyguard episodes... That has to be some of the funniest stuff. :D

The Peter-Homer thing happened in another thread didn't it? Except it was with Paul and John the Apostles.
Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurder!
family guy is better cause it only concentrates on jokes. whereas simpsons sometimes has some crapy drama to it. also, family guy doesnt seem to have limits.
cant really say family guy is a rip off simpsons much, cause there are so many programs that are alike.
