If dinosaurs hadn't died....

Could they have evolved into more intelligent creatures? I think they could have. Look at us humans. We've evolved from being a one celled organism to fish to apes to today. Could the dinosaurs have evolved into human like creatures?

Humans were never apes...

...Learn about evolution.

I don't mean to sound mean, blame sleep problems, but look to evolution.

Imagize the size of the cream pie, I would have to make to hurl it into the face of a diplodichus....

Totally worth it.

What do you mean, could? That whole asteroid thing is a big cover-up - dinosaurs actually evolved to be so advanced that they nuked each other to extinction.

Or maybe not...

It would want to be a very big and strong tree! I suppose they would have evolved into something anyway. Maybe developed an attractive thrid eye!

Nature was already working on that idea...

Partially opposable thumbs...and also, AFAIK, the only dinosaur to develop any depth perception in it's eyesight.

No, dinosaures built a spaceship in the form of a giant pyramid that was so heavy it fell of the earth, the 3 big pyramids we have left in egypt are their breeding chambers since they can not reproduce in space. These dinosaures has visit earth many times and given birth to myths like nordic and asian gods. The thought that they have a small bain is also wrong, since they don't have the brain in the head. Any sensible creature has it more protected like in the ribcage.

Dinosaurs evolved into birds. They've got the same hip joint.

It's unlikely that they'd have evolved into human like creatures because there aren't any birds with the sort of comlicated social structure that social mammals do.

No, as they would have such a massive advantage over every other species they would not need to evolve.

Could the dinosaurs have evolved into human like creatures?Maybe not. One of the main reasons humans are still around today is because we use tools. We're incredibly weak compared to other creatures. Not even a high intellect or the ability to manipulate objects, such as found in octopi, is a guarantee that you will become a primal species. Using tools is a pretty effective means of survival, but it isn't the only one, and sharp teeth and claws are more common means of ensuring that a species survives. There could have been some form of evolution in that direction, but it is very unlikely.

I think it's quite possible. It would depend on alot of factors, but given enough time and enough genetic variability in the dinosaur family of species, eventually a tool-making species would evolve.

They did evolve, because not all of them simply "became extinct".
However, while they were around, they had no need for "our" form of intelligence (making tools, abstract concepts, that kinda stuff), so why would they have evolved that if they'd been around longer?
The carnivores probably would have just evolved into even more efficient killing machines, the herbivores either into things so massive that they started to distort gravity :D or into extremely fast breeding smaller animals, to balance the carnivores' killing rate...

I believe that intelligence is such a survival advantage that where it can develop, it likely will. While it's unlikely that we'd see brainy Tyrannosaurs, roughly human sized dinosaurs are good candidates, like the aforementioned Troodon.

Anything can evolve into anything eventually. But it will only happen if the necessary changes make the resulting creatures more suited to their environment than their predecessors.

That the two bolded parts had anything with each other were new information for me :p

Yes, they could have developed intelligence IF there was an enviromental pressure to do so. Besied, we can not know how advance dinosaures were, since we only have a fossil record. If humans died today, all structures and so on would be gone quite fast. After 65 millions year, the Hunhuts (a human like snail) would only see a 1.8 meter long ape with a big head (which may or may not indicate a big brain which in turn may indicate a high intelligence)

They already had a bloody long enough time to have a go at evolving further (as in mentally) and didn't. They were around for 200 million years, and still had brains the size of walnuts. So why would another 65 million years do any different?

I don't see why not, if intelligeince would help them survive.

That or generally unkillability, like roaches :P

Of course, sharp teeth and claws dont mean much of anything when somebody goes and invents the machine gun :P

As to dinosaurs and their not being wiped out/evolving intelligence...I would say that IF humans evolved in the presence of dinosaurs (assuming our dear ancient ancestors ever got over their getting-crushed-by-a-giant-lizard phobia and left their burrows, I think that we would have eventually killed the dinosaurs off, mammals are far more flexible than reptiles, and we breed faster.
We might have kept a few as slave races though. Its much easier to enslave things that arent your own species :P
