UK network to do fictional Bush assassination film
(via cnn.com) – "Death of a President," shot in the form of a documentary examining the assassination, will use a blend of archival footage and computer-generated special effects to portray Bush in October 2007 arriving in Chicago during an anti-war rally.

I think it could be quite interesting, but unfortunately probably won't be shown on American TV. Would you go see it? Will it become required viewing for the members of the Iranian government?!

Why should it not be shown in the land of the free? ;)

Think it could be interesting, but I think it will quite speculative and the group who perform the assassination in the movie (redneck, hippie, iranian etc.) are gonna be offended. But I would watch it.

A poll on CNN showed otherwise! I wouldn't worry about rednecks being offended...weren't they the ones who voted him in in the first place!

Why would it be? The pancreas is so over rated. I thought Toe jam needed to make its first appearence on NS!

Why bother, when the American media is so good as self-censorship?

Bush administration has already made it clear it has their thumbs down. Job done.

I disapprove of the usage of real politicians in fiction that deals with the present or near future.

It's censorship, they totally suck.

I really want to see this movie.

Most movies just use look-alike actors who play similar personalities, but with different names. The Day After Tomorrow, for example. All this does is cut through the pretence.

Will it be classed as docu-drama or adult-fantasy? Thats the question....

Its not a film, its just a hour and a half long docu-drama. They have sculpted his face on using comptuers graphics thingys.

I'd actually like to see this film. Not because I have some desire to see the President shot (I wouldn't wish that on anyone), but because I love these kind of hypothetical scenarios.

It's not a bizarre comment. The Iranians believe that the Danish Mohammed cartoons were an attempt by the US and the Jews to piss them off intentionally, so the Iranians have reacted by deliberately publishing anti-Semitic cartoons.

And maybe you didn't read Ahmadinejad's letter to Germany, that I posted a link to earlier this week. A link to an Iranian site, with translation by the Iranian government.

If you can read that, and think he's not a fucking nutjob, then you're the one with obvious bias.

Can't ban it in the US. First Amendment.

Movie theaters and other media outlets are free to refuse to play it - but that's not government censorship.

I'm sure it will be shown on cable TV.

I suppose there are plenty of TV stations who would feel that anything remotely anti-Bush isn't fit to be viewed by proper patriotic Americans.

And plenty, like Sundance, who hate Bush, and would play it as soon as they can get a copy.

They should just do it about Congressman Alex Shrub instead.

Ive always wanted to see the consequences of what would happen if bush did get shot. Does the movie show that or the actual assasination or both.

Sounds like a good movie either way

I'm going to assume that the makers of the film did a good job and that it would be worth watching, nevermind the controversial topic.

Of course they could. The movie was made as a documentary, so it will be as plausible as possible. (incoming sarcasm) It will show that it would be possible to break the "invincible security" over our wonderful leader.

I have to watch it just to find out how many people cheer in the cinema. On a more serious note I would be quite interested in the US reaction to the death of a leader in this day and age, I can sort of see this massive upsurge in nationalism that is then manipulated by the far right to make america the most naziest place on earth. (I know that was a bit early for godwin's but any excuse to reference nazis and disney at the same time is a good one in my book)
