The price of vanity?
This came up on a local radio show this morning.
The price women pay for getting their hair done. Its absolutely crazy ranging from anything E70 to E220.
So basically how much do the girls and guys of NS spend on their locks???
How much is too much?
The most I have ever paid for a hair cut is E60. I dye my own hair though if I had the money to get my hair dyed professionally every few months I would.

Guys generally don't have as much hair or feel the need to dye it!:(
Seeing as how I haven't gotten a haircut in over two years, any money spent beyond the basics (shampoo and conditioner), seems like a waste.

For a normal haircut, 35E. It's the cheapest I can get as a woman... I always thought it unfair that men have to pay so much less, especially when I had short hair myself. Same cut, but the price is different because of my genes?
I pay about 16 or 17 euros for a haircut, every 3 or 4 months.. I could probably get a cheaper haircut, but I don't like getting my hair cut as it is, let alone at a place I don't know..

I've paid up to £120, which is roughly double in Euros. More if I want highlights or something along those lines. Usually though I pay around £40.

i only get my hair cut every 6 months or so, and even then its only £10 (€15-ish)
edit: that said i buy decent shampoo/conditioner and get through a lot of it... so that probably adds up to a fair bit. maybe £10 a month on that at a guess

I bought a £20 pair of hair-clippers three years or so ago, and they're still going strong.
As for shampoo, I use Asda Wash'n'Go-equivalent (and it really is the same stuff), and thanks to my short hair I get through about one 70p bottle per month.

That was months ago. Inner beauty is what counts - and it's much cheaper too.

I pay 13 euros for a haircut at some local hairdresser and that's cheap :D
It's even cheaper than the student hairdresser inside the university here :)
If you want to be off cheap, the cheapest is still to just shave your head bald. Saves on shampoo and conditioner costs too..

I get a haircut once every 6-8 months for about $12 - I normally get it cut down to almost a buzz cut. A $1 bottle of shampoo will last me about two months, and when my hair is ridiculously short I just clean my scalp with soap.

I can't remember the last time I got my hair properly cut.... just have it trimmed by family occasionally :p My conditioner and shampoo cost a bit, but not too much, and are needed to deal with the wildness of my hair :p
Other things, such as skincare or makeup or clothes, I spend some money on, but not that much, and not regularly.

I get my hair cut about once a year and pay about NZ$20 for it. I rarely shampoo it too, because that makes it fluff up too much.

How do you get away with that???
The most I've ever paid for my hair is $125, for a cut and highlights. Just a haircut for me is usually about $30.

About £15 a year (2x£7.50).
...to some extent that isn't vanity. It costs more for women to get hair cut then men, even if we're talking about a woman with short hair, there are two different rates.
Furthermore, men are allowed to be slobs and have bad hair without social reprecussions while women don't have that sort of freedom.
I pay $30 to get my hair cut, if I go anywhere cheaper they mess it up.

I cut my own hair. I miss a spot sometimes, but it's better than paying for it. I can't imagine spending money to have it cut, especially since I cut it extremely short anyway.
Well, I never used to go anyplace for my hair that cost more than 12 dollars. I have recently become interested in having a haircut that doesn't look like crap, so I have gone to exactly two nice hair salons for a professional hair cut/style. I don't go for several months, probably about 6 months.
It costs about 50-60 dollars with tip, but I look a lot better now that my mom isn't cutting my hair anymore.

When I have long hair, I go into a barber's shop and pay like $20 for a trim. I used to dye it odd colors (without help), so that would cose $15 (for bleach and dye).
Right now, Haircuts consist of getting a friend to carefully shave everything down without taking off my mohawk in the process. Dye still costs 15 bucks (but Green is harder to find than Orange, Blue, Red, or Purple for some reason).

Mohawks are very sensible! They double as fashion, and as impaling weapons in times of need!*
* I wouldn't actually try it... I swear! Well... Maybe once. After all, I'm only kinda sensible.

I have never gone to a hairdresser,I dye my hair with natural henna, about £3 a go.
Cant see the point of spending loads on hair, natural is best. The only make up I use is mascara,so I dont spend much on looks. No point, Ill still be ugly!:p

I used to pay around 15€ per haircut, like every 2 months.
Since I don't cut it for a year, and don't plan on cutting it for a long time, all I spend now is on shampoo.

What do you mean? When I get it cut, I get it cut quite short, then I let it grow out again and cut it again. I don't have a particular style that I try and stick with the whole time, I just let it do and do its own thing. Seems to work out ok.

I pay $60HK, which is ~6Euros. For that I get a shampoo as well.
In China I got a 'cut, wash, dye and 30 minute head, neck and shoulder massage for 80RMB (so 8 Euros), which wasn't bad. I could've got it cheaper elsewhere, but y'know - sometimes one just likes to treat oneself to something a little more luxurious.

though conversely, I do spend quite a bit on toiletries. I shop at L'Occitane, cause it uses pure natural quality ingredients. Last time I went there, I spent nearly $1000HK (100Euros) on shaving foam, aftershave cream, shower gel and cleanser.
I think it's (sorta) worth it. You do notice a definite difference in quality. It is a tad overpriced though, imo.

Ah, but the savings in shampoo and conditioner are probably more than off-set by the costs in having to buy more shaving foam and razors.
And sunblock.

I had a thread on this very subject a while back.
The story I told was this - I went to a hairdresser's and as I waited, watched a woman have a simple haircut and get charged £52. I kinda panicked, because I hadn't realised the place was that expensive. But when it was my turn to pay, mine cost £7.50.
I see that sort of disparity a lot, usually paying £6-15 for a haircut, and seeing women pay prices that begin at £20 and reach for the sky.
I think the reason is, if most men were asked by a barber, with a straight face, to hand over £50, they would shave their own head at home. Women don't have the luxury of saying "get bent".
I have never gone to a hairdresser,I dye my hair with natural henna, .
Is henna hair dye good? I've seen it in health food shops and have always been tempted to use it, but know no one who has?

They do, it's just more work. Neither my mother nor my sister (and, previously, my grandmothers) ever go to a hairdresser; of course, mum used to own a hairdressing shop (back before the word "salon" was used outside of Kensington and France), so she's more than qualified to Do It Herself.
Obviously a course in hairdressing is more effort than buying a pair of clippers, but it's doable.
And nobody's stopping them shaving their heads but themselves...

The most I have paid £65. I just went yesterday and paid £48. I had it dyed, cut and blow dyed. But it seems to be more expensive in the UK than anywhere else I have lived. I have paid less than £48 here, the cheapest was £35, but I didn't like how that it looked after that. I think that she left the dye on too long because my hair felt dry for a week after that and I never went back there again. I think the woman I am going to now does a great job, but I am moving so now I did to find a new person. Bah!
Ah, but the savings in shampoo and conditioner are probably more than off-set by the costs in having to buy more shaving foam and razors.
And sunblock.Well, you could wear a hat (or not live in a sunny climate) And you don't need a smooth head shave, using a hair trimmer every other week would suffice, that's what my brother does..

thing is i have long hair and still get charged the standard tenner, which is odd (you'd think it would have something to do with the amount of hair that needs cutting or something... then again, i get the teeniest of trims when i go in there and only take about 10 minutes :P)
I only get my hair cut as few times as possible. Costs about $15 each time.
