Should Capes come back?

Should capes, as a fashion accessory, return? I have always loved the elegant functionality and numerous dramatic uses. I would try to spearhead this movement myself, but I am afraid I would be daily accused of megolamania. What say you?

That is far from the only dramatic use. a full sweep following "I said good day sir!" usually works great for most situations. Also, nothing more romantic than offering a woman your cape pn a cold day.

No, because seeing the cape make a come back would be the last straw for me to go out and buy a cloak, and after I've got the cloak the fingerless gloves, riding boots, and sword/cane will all follow in short order.
And then where will I be? At the RenFair, because there will no place left for me in sane society.

Capes are nice to look at They don't keep you warm when it's cold. You have to have something to hold them on, so you're either holding one closed with one hand and trying to do something with the other or you have a pin holding it closed and either it's choking you or pricking you and then the cape has to be flung back so it won't get in the way of what you're doing. When the wind blows, it's all over the place. Capes, as far as I'm concerned, will never replace the full-length black trench-coat (esp. leather) for romance and mystery and the trench coat has the advantage of actually being practical.

If you encounter a man wearing a cape and there isn't any bull-fighting within at least 200-yards, then you, my girl, have gone beyond that which is known to man, and now are in a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. I'm pretty sure you're refering to me here (no one else has felt the need to use the Camel's Nose argument), and so I must say that swords (while quite silly) aren't nearly as bad as the Cane/Sword that I fear. For while a true sabre or rapier (only an uncultured barbarian would think to use any other blade) might actually be usable in a fight, Cane/Swords are effective neither as canes nor as swords.

Perhaps you should consider more temperate climes? I've had quite an excellent time in China managing my tea and opium plantations; ever since the concessions I've been able to accquire a healthy amount of mountain property and the cool air is just wonderful for a delicate constitution.

Women's suffrage? Guffaw. The choice between two candidates will overheat their feminine brains. Return to my kitchens, do what you know best!

I would advise those of you with business to invest in the new steam-driven factory machines. Twice as effective as a starved child at least! Wonders never cease.

Yes, those women and their foolish ideas! They made it impossible for me to reach Congress in time to secure passage of a new trade bill with China...I shall have to try again next year, I'm afraid.

And regarding your steam-driven machines: I've been able to secure productivity increases of nearly 25% by having orphaned children work the machines! Indeed, it's so dreadfully hot in the factory that the ungrateful whelps have taken to labelling them "sweat shops".

You would think they would be grateful for the civilization we bring to them, but they cling to their backward ways nonetheless. No matter, though; following the suppression of that "Boxer" rebellion the price of slaves plunged to under a few thousand wen...quite the deal for such quality.

There are two things I would like to see come back before capes come back:

parachute pants
polyester leisure suits

I read this post with growing enthusiasm, up until I got to this part:
For those not too good with sarcasm, I hope that I never see capes come back.
You see, I have been working on this truely gorgeous little ensemble that would consist of the upper part of a leisure suit (in pink, of course), with polyester parachute pants (which would be yellow and made of polyester, to match the upper portion), and then be completed by a dashing red cape (all of this, of course, is in pastels), and I was hoping that you would be willing to model it for me at the next fashion show in Paris.
It seems that my dreams may never reach reality, oh woe is me!
