Considering it was probably that very brutality that got his country's success I don't see how it was that big a deal. As soon as more sane people took over the Soviet power rapidly declined. Without that brutality they simply didn't have the capablity to stay economically sound and build up their military to compete with the U.S.

I'll take Stalin as the worst, but worse than Stalin? Fred Phelps. Maybe we need to have a tournament-style "Worst Emperor of the World" series of threads to determine who would really be the worst. We can have the Dead Wacko Ruler bracket, with Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot as the headliners. Then we can have the Religious Fundie bracket, with Ahmedinejad or whatever the hell his name is along with Phelps, Robertson, bin Laden, and if anyone can think of a batshit-insane Israeli leader or Indian leader, go for it. Then we have the Celebrity bracket, where Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson lead a bracket that includes Stephen Colbert and, just because I have to include someone stupid, Paris Hilton. The last bracket is the Current leaders bracket, with Dubya, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Vlad Putin, the guy in chage of Turkmenistan, and probably Tony Blair. The guy in charge of Iran can go here. If George W Bush were president in 2008, it would mean that the tattered shreds of our Constitution had finally been completely burned to ash. That would really suck.

Plus, Bush is the single greatest embarassment my country has ever had to endure. And that includes Vietnam, slavery, and that one president who was so fat he got stuck in his bathtub.

rumsfield, bush or anyone else hand picked by conscousless economic intrests or the rand corporation to be shoved down our throats to let them get away with litteral as well as figuarative mass murder.

That's a bit of a misconception.
True, the Soviet Union, like China improved greatly when compared to what they were at 1917 and 1949, respectively.
However, every country improved in that space of time.

To make a proper and fair comparison, you should instead look at other countries which were at a similar level at the times the Communists took over and then compare the standard of living and level of advancement.

For instance, China was at a similar economic level and industrial development level to Korea and Taiwan in 1949.
Korea of course went through a destructive and economically-damaging war in the 50s and Taiwan saw it's population grow by a staggering 40% in the first 1/2 of the 1950's due to an influx of refugees escaping Mao's purges, which put huge pressure on the economy.
Both Korea and Taiwan were ruled by oppressive military dictatorships over most of the last 50 years. Neither were that hot at economic development or at encouraging trade. Neither had (or have) the enormous amount of raw materials that China has got.
Yet when compared to China today, both Korea and Taiwan are lightyears ahead in terms of standards of living and average wage. Both are about 10 times that of China.
[eg. in rural China, the official average wage is 200RMB ($25US) a month. Official, mind you - meaning that it's probably closer to 100RMB.]

Also, bare in mind that nearly all of China's growth has come in the last 20 years since it embraced capitalist ideals. There was almost no difference in living standards between China 1979 and China 1949.


Likewise Russia. A suitable comparison would be Russia 1917 to Italy 1917.
Both similar in terms of living standards.
Italy went through Fascism, WWII and then around 50 governments after that. It's economy was badly mismanaged, corruption was/is endemic and it's sorely lacking in raw materials. Yet look at the standards of living between the two countries now. Which one would you rather live in?

Thirty-two insane people from both modern times and history's worst do battle in a tournament-style contest! Whoever can vanquish five opponents becomes ruler of Parallel Earth, which we turn into its own cable network!

First, we split everyone in competition into four brackets. We have the Insane Celebrities, whose antics include jumping on couches and asking cops their religious affiliations while in a drunken state. If one wins, we all may be named Pixie Fifi Axl Rose Shalamalamadingdong. Next up is the Fundies. All you need is power and fanatical followers. You can send people to kill civilians or make people send you money; it doesn't matter. We also have the Dead Leaders, and we don't just take any old Millard Fillmore; you have to do smething really bad. Genocide's a good way to get into this bracket; so is mass starvation. Finally, the Current Leaders bracket might produce a winner as well. You don't have to invade a country for reasons that aren't at all true to get in here, but it helps.

We're accepting entries for the brackets along with our already chosen...what's this? Late-breaking bulletin, it seems a fifth bracket has been added for...prophets? That's right, thanks to some leveraging here, religious prophets now have their own bracket. I don't quite understand the decision, but it's been handed down.

Here's how it works. I will list a few automatic entries into the Wacko Brackets, and others can help bring that number up. Each bracket should have eight entrants, and some may have more; I don't know. I'll start.
