Resident or itinerant?

I noticed the other day that I now live only a kilometre (about 5/8 of a mile) from the hospital where I was born. I wondered if other people tend to live near where they were born, or have moved far away.

The poll is divided into sections for adults (O18) and young'uns (U18 - which as usual actually includes 18-year-olds) as I presume young people are more likely to live near where they were born. Also, before you get pendantic, each option is supposed to exclude the previous options (so don't moan that if the first option applies to you than so do the next three). And I know the km and miles distances listed aren't precisely equivalent. And that there aren't options for precisely 1000km.

I live about 40 miles from where I was born, but this isn't a big country so it's quite hard to move a long way away. I've lived all over the (south of the) country, but I suppose 100 miles (as the crow flies) is the furthest I've been from my birthplace.

I'm still in the same state, but I'm several hundred k's from where I was born. My parents still live in the house I grew up in, but I had to move away.

Oddly enough, I live a bit less than 20 km away from the hospital where I was born. It really wouldn't be that odd, except for the fact that when I was six months old my family moved overseas, and I didn't return to the U.S. to live until I started college. My uni was around 220 km away from where I was born; after I graduated I moved here, but I'm not planning to stay here too much longer.

We'd moved 8 times by the time I was 12. The first time was 20k away from where I was born. Next time was around 1000km (moved from Westport to Great Barrier island) and then by the 8th time, I was living 1300km away.
My parents still live there, so it's more of a home than anywhere else.

That said, it's over 9000km away as the crow flies to where I am now.

In case anyone else is wanting to know how far away they live, this isn't a bad site:

only works for major cities though. But of course you should be able to work out the distance from your place to the closest city.

I remember reading years ago that the majority of Americans live within 50miles of where they were born. Don't know if it's true, but it would explain a lot about their rather narrow worldview.

I grew up about 60km from where I was born (never lived there).
I now live about 130km from where I grew up, which is about 150km from where I was born.

Still the same Federal state and I don't think I really want to move out of it that badly. But once I've graduated, time will tell where I'll end up.

Germany ain't that big a place, though - and I'm living only about 55km from the center of it. So, if I moved about 450km in any direction, I'd be beyond the German borders ;)

I said less than 60 miles, but it's probably ever so slightly more. It's closer just to say the smaller one. I was born in North London, now I live in North Essex.

I live about 720 kilometers (450 miles) away from my hometown (and where I was born isn't all that far away from there so it should be pretty much the same distance).

That's the record so far. Embarassingly, I've never even visited that far from where I was born.

According to this site, the farthest I've lived from where I was born is 10,309 miles (16,591 km). That's the distance between Sacramento, CA and Gaborone, Botswana as the crow flies.

Right now I only live about 25 miles from where I was born, but the farthest away I've ever really lived is 4157 miles (6689 km), the distance from my tiny hometown in Michigan to Frankfurt, Germany. I did spend a year 6258 miles (10070 km) from my hometown, but that was a "business trip" to Iraq, so I don't think it counts for this purpose.

I had no intention of moving back to this area, but the university here just happened to have what I needed at a relatively reasonable cost. It's been extremely odd, to say the least, to go back to the old stomping grounds after being away from it for five years.
