(Oh no!) Elton John wants to make hip-hop album

Sir Elton John is planning to record a hip-hop album, he tells US magazine Rolling Stone.
"I want to bring my songs and melodies to hip-hop beats," the singer, 59, told Rolling Stone, in an interview printed on their website.
"It may be a disaster, it could be fantastic, but you don't know until you try," he said.

This is all because of that 'Ghetto Gospel' thing. Stupid Elton.
Also, where is TG's avatar gone?
Maybe it will put American rappers off all that "bling" 'I have all the money/bitches' crap...

It's an anti-subversive plot by the government to bring down Hip-Hop culture.
It has to be.
Right?
It's probably better to let him make the record then help it fail under a hail of ridicule. It will also be obligatory to brutally mock anyone who purchases this abomination. This must be done with extreme prejudice and without compunction or exception to ensure that no project remotely like this is ever attempted or even seriously contemplated again.

This has to be the last sign of the end of the world.
An epitaph for human good taste (not that they had very much to begin with).
Elton John should just stay home and play with his little genie and forget about rap.

That would just embarass them more that they're parents are being hip with a genre they don't even like. And don't tell me you would walk home if your mom drove to pick you and your friends up with the minivan bumpin' MC Elton.

And it's not like Elton is being particularly original here. Pat Boone (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000005KOE/102-9451653-5463309?v=glance&n=5174) did something similar nearly ten years ago. I wonder if Elton will get Eminem to do another duet with him, like they did on some awards show for Eminem's song "Stan"?

Ahh, the Pat Boone thing...I was working at a record store when that happened to the landscape. It was that dark day where we discovered that appreciating something ironically had its limits. It was too late to save the next generation, they'll have to have Hasselhoff teach them that...

You honestly didn't see this coming? The man publicly defended Eminem (a noted lyrical homophobe) and appeared with him on stage. As soon as I saw that, I knew it wouldn't be long before the notion of either new songs or his old stuff being remixed would happen.
It's a long-established artist's attempt to win new fans. Sir Elton may be grasping, but surely he has enough pop savvy and marketing experience to give this effort a legitimate shot.
And please, don't wave that whole "hip-hop purist" banner at me. No music is pure anymore. Influence is everywhere and unavoidable. It's all been written, so the only thing that remains is to recombine in as novel a way as possible. Why else would there be such a micro-splintering of genres?
The problem isn't Elton's. It's yours.

It can't be just that his music is really irritating?
You are quite correct. My objections are purely on the grounds that Elton John's music is shit enough (anyone listened to BBC Radio 2 lately?) without being remixed to a "hip hop beat".
As for Intangelon's assumption that I am defending the purity of hip-hop... I'm not. I know that no musical form is 'pure'. Indeed, some of my favourite genres are 100% derived from a variety of other, earlier forms. I mean, the Bristol Sound is remix heaven.
But that's not the issue. The issue is that Elton John is shit, and getting himself updated for what he thinks is the new generation of listeners, in this trite, contrived manner, is going to be monumentally, cringingly embarassing.

Elton John tells Rolling Stone magazine that he wants to record a hip-hop album with Grammy-winning producer Dr. Dre.
"I want to work with Pharrell, Timbaland, Snoop, Kanye, Eminem and just see what happens," John says in the Sept. 7 issue. "It may be a disaster, it could be fantastic, but you don't know until you try."
The 59-year-old says he is a fan of Blackstreet's "No Diggity" and Tupac Shakur's "California Love."
"I want to bring my songs and melodies to hip-hop beats," John says. "I love these beats, but I have no idea how to get them."
John performed Eminem's song "Stan" with the rapper during the 2001 Grammy awards.
John's new album, "The Captain and the Kid," is due in September.

Heh, well I can't say I'm too surprised. Elton John is no Mozart after all and it's not too odd that he would try to take advantage of current trends to maximize success. Still, I can't help but laugh. Incidentally, my mother once met Elton John; she says he was really really rude and snobby.
