Hello all,

Well, I went to the Inner Harbor and sat around for an hour and a half, and nobody showed up. I am currently in Towson waiting for M to renew his parking permit, then we'll head up to the bus station to pick up Laerod at 2:15. He said his return ticket is at 8 tomorrow morning and he has no idea what to do or where to stay. So! We are going to have an adventure!

I've already taken some pictures for you guys (me sitting in the car by myself) and I'll post any pictures we take here this week.

Somebody is yelling that this laptop is for printing permits, not personal use. Yeah, yeah.

Love, Ilie.

I hope everyone makes a better effort in London on the 9th. :fluffle:

You missed out on the unique opportunity to see the scar of some woman that got stabbed in the heart and was wandering about at the Baltimore downtown greyhound busstation. Then again, so did I, as I took that opportunity to grab my bag and make a dash for the safety of the station's airconditioned interior...

The only reason why I'm hanging out at the computer is because the seat is comfortable, we wanted to look at wiki to know why no one else was drinking some of the stuff and that's where most of the good (and bad) alcohol is.

Quite honestly, this stops no one. Maybe we'll get under 300 murders this year in good old charm city.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

On a lighter note, make sure you have crabs. Or crab cakes, at G and Ms. :)

However, that place gets crowded, so you can always go up the street to Olive Grove and have theirs, which is also very very tasty.

okay okay

it is now 5:30 in the morning. We are all tipsy and exhausted.

about an hour ago we handed Laerod off to a girl who is 20 years old, cute, married and actively seeking divorce, has a 2 year old kid, and was hinting that she has "chuggable tequila" back at her place. Since he needs to be at the bus stop at 8 am, she said she'd stay up with him and take him there. We are hoping that he is getting laid. Right now.

Did I mention he is wearing a shirt that isn't his? After changing OUT of a shirt that ALSO wasn't his. Long story on that one.

BEST DAY EVAR

P.S. Laerod is invited back anytime, if he can regain his strength and sanity.

Hey, we only let the Cubans live here because of the TOTALLY AMAZING good food they make, such as Bistec Empanizado (Cuban style-chicken fried steak) and Cuban garlic bread. :)

And anyway, the heat isnt anywhere near as bad as the cold you get in the rest of the country. Yeah, our heat may be a little much at times but its a small price to pay for eternal summer. :p

But seriously, what new laws are you talking about, exactly?
You know about the new laws and are playing coy?

Gun control group targets Florida's tourist industry (http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-10-04-florida-gunprotest_x.htm)

Florida's "stand your ground" law, which took effect Saturday, means that people no longer must attempt to retreat or defuse a threatening situation before using violence in order to later claim they were acting in self-defense. People already had that right in their homes, but the law now allows them to meet "force with force" in any place they have a legal right to be.
In 2000, Florida had the highest violent crime rate in the US. In 2003, it was 2nd only to South Carolina, whose VCR was increasing.

Although Florida's VCR is going down, it is still 50% higher than the US average. What happens with this new law is anyone's guess. It is too early to weigh the results.

The new law plus the existing "right to carry" concealed weapons laws does not instill in me a desire to visit Florida in the very near future.

*apologies to Ilie for side tracking her thread.

Well, you will have photos, but we didn't take a lot of pictures of the actual PLACES we were...mostly just "Here is Laerod with a guy with a beer" and "Here we are sitting in the restarurant." I wish we'd taken pictures of the neighborhoods and stuff, now. I'll be able to upload them tonight.

We also forgot to buy Ruffy a shot glass OR buy a postcard and send it to Keruvalia. We are terrible people!

I'll do better next time. We WILL have Laerod back before his semester in the US is up, now that we know he's not a freak. Meaning, not a guy we have to worry about stabbing us in the night if we let him stay in our guest bedroom.

I wasn't drinking much (read: I didn't throw up). And there is only one picture of partly naked people, but it's not pornographic. I will need Laerod's permission to display it, and he seemed pretty eager to keep a lot of the details of this meetup under the rug, so you may be out of luck.

Ugh, join the club. Anyway, suffice to say, Baltimore is a very lively city with very interesting people, and you all missed out. Of course, we said many times that we're glad none of the rest of you jerkwads came since it would have made it that much more difficult to pack everybody into the car when we went on our adventures. I have learned from this experience: if more than one person intends to show up, they should bring their own transportation and have planned a place to spend the night. Only one person at a time is allowed to be a drifter. :p

You know about the new laws and are playing coy?

Gun control group targets Florida's tourist industry (http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-10-04-florida-gunprotest_x.htm)

All that is irrelevant. Look:

Proponents of the measure, pushed by the National Rifle Association, say it will make Florida a safer place, not more dangerous. Gov. Jeb Bush has repeatedly pointed to a 34-year low in state crime statistics to demonstrate that Florida is not a haven for violence.

These gun control idiots from California need to bring their gun control back to California. Florida is a place with individual rights, not the government telling you you cant own a firearm or defend yourself against an attacker.

I'm glad we have this law, it will teach people not to fuck with innocent people...and if they try to fuck with innocent people, they'll get shot, and they will either learn their lesson, or there will be one less bad guy around.

Good job Florida, I approve.

Makes no sense to cite a record spanning 34 years when you're talking about a law that's only recently come on the books.

What the State of Florida has done is made is less illegal to shoot someone and, thus, crime - technically - will reduce even more. After all, if it's not illegal to shoot someone who bumps into you at the bus stop, then there's nothing to add to the crime statistics when you shoot him.

While interesting, it is unrealistic to claim that being more permissive amounts to less crime.

Aaaaanyway ....

Yes, it really is like an extension of New York City + Los Angeles + Cuba.....

Its like there was a mad exodus of all that is old and sucky at driving, Jewish and liberal, New York-ish and Southern California-ish, Cuban and Haitain, and anything that has to do with illegal vices....then all of that relocated to what is now South Florida.

Orlando is representative of Central Florida...where the the hick-ass South and South Florida blend into one. Orlando hardly represents So-Fla. South Florida isnt like the rest of the South....its unique...I'd say a mix of South/California/New York City.

it is now 5:30 in the morning.

You know what the penalty for adultry is in Maryland! We were discussing it when I left!

Well, I didn't get into anything. I had a very bad experience with an engaged girl, so I'm not exactly keen on repeating anything like that, especially not when marriage and a kid are involved. Considering that the husband and brother were home too, that was a very prudent decision of mine. So we watched Mindhunters instead.

WHEN HE GETS THE CHEMICAL BALL SHOVED IN HIS MOUTH!!??!?!?

*sigh* I love that movie.

But still, what do you think the reason for this is?

You answered your own question a post or two back...

*sigh* I love that movie.Yeah, the last time you see him in the cut version is where he manages to open the door. I was asking myself what happened to him for the longest time...

But still, what do you think the reason for this is?Maybe because the Nazis were violent prudes and we needed to shake that heritage. :D

Haha, no I meant in America.

I have no problem with violence in movies, but it is interesting that we hold sex as such a taboo, yet love "The Terminator" and "The Terminator strikes back: Blood, guts, and rolling heads."

Ya know?

Sure you did. In bold, at the beginning. It's because you make sex a taboo. There's your answer.

Haha, no I meant in America. Ingrained use of firearms and puritan heritage. Seriously, the puritans and pilgrims got kicked out of England for making having fun illegal, so there shouldn't be any doubts as to where that attitude may have come from...

Good answer though.;)It might even be true. The Nazis were obviously violent, but few know how prude they were at the same time.

That doesn't explain where the taboo came from, though, which may be what he was inquiring about...

Alright! Well, that's that, then.

Laerod: you'll have to come back before you leave the U.S. Maybe we could even see some nice monuments and museums and fairs and whatnot. Or we could just party again. Whatever!

Hmmm..you're probably right about America. As for the Nazis...I know they were very socially controlling..but we didnt talk to much about sex during Nazi Germany in Euro-History.:p

Uh, thats not an answer..I was asking why, as Laerod saw..and since he answered it, we're all good.

Laerod how many shirts go you own that belong to other people?Do I own? Well that last exchange was so I could get the red shirt back to the original owner. Other than that, I only have shirts that I swiped off my dad or siblings.

I have a strange relationship with my city...I wouldn't be the best PR person for Baltimore. Of course, I don't think I'd want to live anywhere else.

I loved the seven years I spent in Baltimore. Probably the best years of my life -- well, the most fun anyway. I'd love to go back. In fact, this past spring was my 10th uni reunion, and I really wanted to go, but uh...my gf would've wanted to go with me. Not a good idea. I've settled down since my time there, and the possibility that she might've heard what I used to be like was a bit scary.

That is one of the creepiest places I've ever been.

There's the Greyhound station in downtown DC. Very similar.

Or the Union Station Parking Garage at night...

Or Bass Liquors, any time of day or night...

Well I agree with the law as well. I'm glad I live in FL. :fluffle: for FL
I'd suggest a FL meet but we'd be the only 2 people there. :(
Well I for one like the sound of an NS meet at a beach somewhere... Somewhere warm and sunny.

Never heard of Crying in the Rain, The Sun Always Shines on TV, or Forever Not Yours then, have you?
..or Velvet, or Living daylights, or Summer moved on, or Hunting high and low...
