Or otherwise prophecied to return in time of greatest need...

Arthur springs to mind. I've heard that Vlad the Impaler's also supposed to come back (at least according to my sister).

I suppose Jesus could technically be included in this group...

Does where you live have a similar legend/myth/whatever, and if said King returned, would you follow them?

I'd like to think that Emperor Norton would come back, but alas...I don't know if I'd follow him, but I'd have a beer with him for sure.

Can't say as I can think of one. Tell you who I might be persuaded to follow, should they ever return: Amenhotep IV (Akhenaton), of Eighteenth-Dynasty Egypt (approx. 1350 BC).

Mozart! He will return from the grave to seek revenge on Salieri and then he will restore classical music to its former glory.

Mozart is busy with other things at the minute. If you ever pay a visit to his grave, you'll be able to hear his music faintly in the wind. Being played backwards in reverse chronological order.

I don't think New Jersey has a "return" legend, but if Vlad the Impaler came back, well, it would be neat.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alderley_Edge#Local_legend
A local legend tells of a wizard and sleeping warriors who will save the country in crisis. A farmer on his way to market was confronted by an old man who wanted to buy his horse. The old man explained that one day when England was in great danger the army would wake and ride out onto the Cheshire plain to save the country. One man of the sleeping army did not have a horse, which is why the old man wanted the farmer's.

King Arthur came back as the Duke of Wellington.

This made me snigger a little, but I suppose it's a valid point. Him or Churchill. You don't have to have a humongous sword to be a hero, especially after the invention of the gun (quotable one there).
