Wow, I can imagine that in a movie or something. But I never really imagined something like this could be pulled off.

Here's more to it:

Just when you're starting to regain a little bit of faith in humanity, things like this always come along to destroy it totally.

Real shame that the guy topped himself. Being stuck inside a little cell of his own for 20 years would have been a much better punishment.

*shrug* Manhunter and Silence of the Lambs were probably inspired by real cases...

EDIT: I mean, the books they were based on.

They don't know yet.

She only escaped a couple days ago. I imagine they have to go *very* slowly on interrogating her. And they definitely won't be giving all the information right to the press just so it can feed our morbid fascination. I mean, she'll have it bad enough to reclaim anything of her life without everybody yapping about every sick detail of her ordeal.

I've repeatedly heard that there was a certain degree of "Stockholm Syndrome", which, considering her initial age and the fact that he was someone she knew before, is hardly surprising.

Insane is the right word for all this.

And literally my second thought when I heard about it was oh my God, as great as it is for her family to have her back, this will be hell for the families of other missing children. I mean, this is *exactly* what they will have had to tell themselves over and over and over can't happen. And now it happens. So now they can have hope again, even though in 99.99% it won't happen.
Horrible.

PS: The very second I'm about to hit reply the radio said she was indeed sexually abused. It seems she said as much to a female police officer. And it seems to have been "consensual" sex. Which, if true, is hardly surprising, considering the circumstances. Or she may just be lying to not speak badly of him.
