You know, I can understand people wanting to defend their beliefs, but blasting others in the first place is something I don't understand. I'm guessing though that it comes from a lack of assurance that one's own beliefs are too weak to hold up to any kind of battering thus they feel the need to bash their opponent's beliefs... w/e this was kind of a pointless rant cause I get kinda pissed about people being so whiney about religion.

I think a lot of people miss the fact that it's quite possible to attack somebody else's assumptions/assertions/beliefs without "bashing" them. The fact that somebody disagrees with you does not constitute "bashing," so quite yer whining.

If you can't stand the nature of NSGeneral, do what I do; drop in once every few months to spew some debate, then leave again for an undetermined ammount of time.

Couldn't have said it better myself. :p I will admit that sometimes the bashing gets a little tiresome, but then I just go soak my head in ice water for a while and feel better right away.:D

Wait, I understand it now, and you should tune your sarcasm detector, 'cause my original post was laden with it.

Part of this boils down to the nature of the thing you're subscribing to. To me, Religion and its direct opposite are ultimately the flaunting of belief under a specific banner. And it is the banner itself, not the belief, that causes opponents to rise up.

Believe what you want to and nobody will complain. Speak your beliefs and you will get discussion. Box yourself into some category and people will argue. That is how society works; when you pick an allegience, you will be treated as one with your allies since you chose with whom to associate. It takes the communal influence to create real tension between people.

Bear the influence of your community in mind when you choose to align yourself with a single religious (or non-religious) entity. If you are unwilling to accept those consequences, the choice you make is an unwise one.

Ahh Religion.

It's simple really.

Don't expect everybody to live by your code and you won't get "bashed."

What the hell are you talking about? People don't just bash any old belief different to theirs...

...they only bash christian beliefs on this thread, because it's ok to bash that religion;)

That's one theory all right.

Mine runs more like this:

Your basic troller does not strongly believe in anything except posting what he believes will so agitate others that they will feel compelled to reply. In this state those who reply can be led by their emotions through their paces of railing against the troll. This in turn gives the troll a feeling and indeed an actual control of sorts over those who reply due to stromg emotion. The troll also becomes the willing object of their attention albeit negative attention.

Or in brief:

Trolls piss people off for shits and grins because they need attention.
