Is "meowing" at someone regularly seem like harassment to you?

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20060824/D8JMP2JG0.html

JEANNETTE, Pa. (AP) - Meow. A district judge has been asked to decide whether that word is a harmless taunt or grounds for misdemeanor harassment. Jeannette police charged a 14-year-old boy for "meowing" whenever he sees his neighbor, 78-year-old Alexandria Carasia.

The boy's family and Carasia do not get along. The boy's mother said the family got rid of their cat after Carasia complained to police that it used her flower garden as a litter box.

The boy testified Tuesday that he only meowed at the woman twice. Carasia testified, "Every time he sees me, he meows."

Something tells me that if she ignored him, it would stop soon anyway. What do you think? Is this harassment, or just some kid being silly because he had to get rid of his cat?

Personally, I think the woman is being stupid, and wasting everyone's time. I also think she was stupid for complaining about the cat crapping in her flower garden (cats poop in my yard - it's what cats do).

She should have done what I have done - I have an enormous plot of catnip in the corner of the yard - they all hang out there now, and poop there.

I'd have complained about the cat, too - filthy bloody verminous bird-killing shit dispensing cats - I hate them.

cats have "immenant domain" and its apparently acceptable for them to wander all around, at will.

Fuck em. If someone's precious garfield wanders through my yard to shit, piss and maim a bird, he may not be returning home later.
If you care about him, keep him in your house or your yard. I dont have offensive pets to bother people.

And fuck the old lady too-most of them are nasty douche bags with nothing better to do than mind everyone else's business.

Cats and old ladies are on the same rung of the social ladder- selfish and useless. And they go out of their way to annoy others.

I say the boy is wrong he really shouldn’t be taunting an old woman I think the old lady should of just told the boys parents and if they refused to do anything call the cops

But the woman is wrong for complaining about the cat after all that cat shit will keep her daisy’s the most beautiful in the neighbourhood (and it’s a fucking cat if you don’t like it get a dog)

Is she so insecure she can't handle the jabs of a 14 year old boy?

Totally agree. My neighbor lets their two huge cats out every evening. They then go back in the house and come out about 2 or three hours later hollering for the cats to come back in for the night. One of the cats always comes to my yard, I've caught it shitting a couple of times. Not sure where the other one goes. I myself have a cat .. but she doesn't leave my property. She has run of the house and a nice big screened in porch. I know if I did let her out she would roam .. so her butt doesn't go out, for her safety and I wouldn't want her to be a nuisance. I don't understand how people can allow their pets to run around on other peoples land and think nothing about it. I've seen a lady up the road walking her little dog and stopping along the way letting it shit in peoples yard. What gall! I would never just hurt my neighbors cats without first warning them. If after I told them to keep their pets off my property and they still didn't do it.. I'd probably just pop them in the butt with a bb gun.

Speak of the devil.. I hear my neighbor outside my window now -- hollering for the cats. lol

If I knew where this old woman lived, I would fly right to her house and "Meow" very loud and very long. I would "Meow" so hard that my eardrums would burst and I would go into a state of perpetual deafness, which would be good. Then I wouldn't be able to hear her incessant nagging.

Come on, it's a 14 year old saying 'Meow'! Human beings have done much worse things to each other than that.

Heh, it's what came to mind. And I'm going to side with the woman here, he should keep his pets in order.

My ex-girlfriend meowed at me. I suppose I have a good reason to sue her now... >=D

Do you shake your fist and yell at kids who walk on your lawn?

The kid should have the legal right to utter the word meow.

His parents got rid of the cat in an effort to get along. Now the old bat is suing their kid. Getting along is out the window. I would go the full legal freedom of speech in his own yard legal battle for the kid if I was his parent now. Id sue her for using the authorities to harass and try for a cease and desist order against her. Loud music until 10 PM every night. The old busy body wont live long enough to see the end of it.

Id also start putting food and milk outside for random cats to eat. In a week there will be 3 cats and in a month there will be a dozen cats hanging around their houses.

As someone who works with the Department of Justice, I'm surprised this got along this far as it is. Waste of court time!

Well, it is the american way :)

I mean, instead of talking to each other it is so much easier to sue...perhaps the parents should sue the old lady for the emotional trauma for the child?

Isn't it interesting how old people, who tend to be more vocal about their gripes with the justice system than any other group, are the first to turn around and exploit that system whenever they get "irritated" by something they could just as easily ignore?

I've never struck a woman in my life, but I might just pimp-slap that woman if I ever meet her.

actually no, I thought of that too......and then about my husband who picked up that little gem and uses it often, mostly to make me laugh when I have had a bad day. He talked to my mom for like 20 minutes on the phone doing that before she got mad and hung up, she didn't call again for 3 days (which was a very nice vacation) :p
