Law Enforcement Officers Protect Your Rights!

I caught this while trawling my way through the blogosphere this afternoon and I thought I would share it with NS General.

It appears that police in Florida shot an unarmed protester in the face with rubber bullets and then, in a meeting afterwards, laughed about it. In a world with such wonders of democracy as "Free Speach Zones" and "Regulations on the Free Press", it should come as no suprise that these actions occur. That said, I'm pretty disgusted by this kind of crap. It is symptomatic of a broader hate of protesters which is sweeping the US, and it is unnaceptable. I want to know why heads aren't rolling yet.

No, just further restrictions on protests. Who knows? Next we could just get rid of that petty "freedom of speach" nonsense altogether!

Protestors are loud, annoying, and quite often rude and obscene. They also make a huge mess wherever they stage their protest, and most of them are just plain irritating to listen to, especially when they're nothing more than a dipshit with absolutely no real knowledge of the subject they're protesting. This goes for protestors of all political affiliations...I honestly dislike them quite a bit.

That being said, I don't think anyone has the right to act like these officers did. The incident in question was nothing more than an irresponsible, even criminal act that reflects poorly on the officers and their duty to uphold our laws and civil rights. If they deserve punishment according to the law, so be it and if they don't they should be strongly condemned for their actions.

As much as I loathe protestors, I loathe people who rejoice in harming them or infringing on their right to protest many, many times more.

If I remember correctly, the protestors disobeyed a direct order to disburse, then taunted the police.

While I find the use of force by the police a little lopsided (Teargas, much better) it couldn't have happened to a NICER group of people!

You remember incorrectly:

Ritter said police offered no warning before firing on protesters.

"There was absolutely no indication either orally or by gesture that they wanted anyone to disperse or leave," she said. "Had the police given such an order, I would have obeyed it immediately."

Videotaped footage of the protests shows Ritter standing next to a police officer using a bullhorn to announce that the protests would be permitted to continue as long as they remained peaceful.

Obviously. But before that free speech will be destoryed because of rubber bullets.
Of course real bullets didn't stop it at Kent State and neither did the Alien and Sedition acts.

Of course being angry at this guy for laughing is violating his right free speech! AAAAAAAA!! It's a parodox!

In short calm down, nothing will happen.

No, it really isn't. Not even a little bit. Your concept of what free speech is and does is so unfunctional that you can't possibly have thought it through.

Freedom of speech exists as the freedom to criticize. Criticizing that fuckmonkey who does not deserve the badge he wears and is a disgrace to anyone else who wears it doesn't 'remove his freedom of speech,' it tells him he is a total fucktard and that we do not approve of his actions-it is the right to critisize and takes nothing from him. But what should be taken from him is his job, not because of his freedom of speech but his inability to deal responsably with the power he was given.

In short calm down, nothing will happen.
That's the problem.

This seems to be a case where the police officer is at fault. Of course even in instances where the person fully deserved it, there is still outrage that someone gets hurt. The riot a few years ago here in Cincinnati a case in point. People get all upset when police use rubber bullets to disperse rioters. What the hell are they supposed to do?

Case in point of irrational hate of protesters.

To be honest, I continue to grow more and more angry with police management of protests. Too often they are quick to attack and harrass unprovoked.
