The Enemy of My Enemy...

I don't think this has featured on any Anglophonic sites, but it appears that the German far right-wingers, the NPD (National-Democratic Party of Germany), joined forces with the enemy of their enemy. There have been contacts between Hizb ut-Tahrir, the organization that the would-be suitcase bombers was allegedly associated with, and the NPD back when Hizb ut-Tahrir was still legal in Germany. As recently as 2005, a lawyer who was also a parliamentary candidate for the NPD defended a member of Hizb ut-Tahrir in court.

It's unlikely that there was more cooperation between the two; the NPD isn't particularly friendly towards Turks and Germans of Turkish descent. Yet it appears that some people find Jews and the USA a bigger threat than Islamic terror...

When I was in Germany..I was told that the far right doesnt really have a problem with Jews anymore..but focusses on Turkish/Muslim immigrants...thats also more or less what Neu Leonstein told me.

I agree with them on politicians serving the people and that Dresden was a tragedy, but not much else, and I find the last point on the Wikipedia page on them to be dangerous.

There are probably more actions against East Asians and Turks than Jews because its a lot easier to tell them apart from "real Germans", but I doubt the neo-nazi parties have given up their notion of the "Zionist conspiracy" led by the US. I know the NPD definitely hasn't. They wanted to throw Ahmadinejad a welcome party for his comments on the Holocaust if he had come to visit Germany for the World Cup.

Uh...no. Only insofar as there aren't really all that many Jews around anymore (... :(). So they would be seriously out of things to do if all they did was sit around and wait for Jewish people to pass by to beat up.

And of course because Jews in Germany were effectively "eliminated", the much more acute "threat" are those evil foreigners who steal our jobs and abuse our social systems and whatnot.

But that doesn't mean that NeoNazis "don't have a problem with Jews anymore."

I've been repeatedly told that various right-wing German groups would love me, based on my appearance and name. Of course, what they don't know is that I'm one quarter......POLISH!

The enemy of your enemy may hate you as much as him.
There is no reason to presuppose two groups will get ONLY based on the fact that they both hate some group or type of person.

Good post. Informing and convincing...I understand. I think your right, I'm just telling you what Germans told me when I was in Mecklemburg (sp).

Good post. Informing and convincing...I understand. I think your right, I'm just telling you what Germans told me when I was in Mecklemburg (sp).Oh, dear... Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is home to the "City without Prejudice" Schwerin. Some people did a video project where they went around asking people if they had any prejudice or stereotypes. Not one of them said they did, although Schwerin is known for its neo-nazi scene. A lot of people close their eyes, though I don't know whom you were talking to, so I won't go as far as to extend that statement to them.

Well I was in Rostock and Warnamunde...and I spoke with university students, mainly.

...Oh, and one political science teacher. Yes, they all told me that Mecklenburg is "THE" place with the resurgance of Neo-Nazis.:(
