Nerves

I've been sitting at home worrying over an audition I have this afternoon (one I've only known I had for 3 days), and trying to find a way to break the cycle of worry. I've always been taught to eat a banana or to do something totally different to get my mind off of the audition, but I'm out of bananas and I'm trapped at home so...

Citizens of NS General, how do YOU deal with nerves for interviews, auditions, and the sort?

I play video games and/or discuss important issues with my brother to keep my mind of it.

But that's just me.

I don't really worry about things like that. If I've prepared as much as I can, then I'm not concerned. If I need to do more, I do more.

Go do something with someone else. Sitting by yourself worrying isn't going to get you anywhere. It's a lot easier to keep your mind off things if you're doing something with people.

Prepare yourself as well as you can then distract yourself with other stuff until it's over with.

Porn or Target shooting. Either way, I blow my load and feel more relaxed.

Don't think about it or worry about it. Just keep thinking to yourself its not going to be as bad as you think. Just do something you usually do to relax. That would help.

Just prepare as best you can, and know that you will do your best.

And never forget that no matter what happens, one day this will all be twenty years ago.

Rationalize.

Worrying will not alter the outcome of the event.
Worrying will make you feel like crap.

Therefore worrying is irratational.
Thanks, Spock.

I'll keep all the advice in mind (and not bother to go begging for bananas from my neighbors).

I've got to do this twice in one week (and luckily, this is the one I'm NOT most worried about), so I'm doing my best to prevent things from getting bad by Saturday (Because that audition REALLY matters).

I don't; I get nerves, I don't sleep, and I get butterflies all the time.

Yeah. I should have put that up there too.

Speaking of which... I'm gonna go do a few minutes before I leave.

I used to get this (in fact, at one point I gave myself ulcers from too-much-codeine, and then everytime I got stressed I got the most awful stomach pains >.<) but now I've pretty much got my anxiety under control.

Distraction is good (good old NS, or gameboy, or Artemis Fowl books...), as is sleep if you fit it in. I also using breathing control when I need to (just started this yesterday). Start couting in a way that feels 'natural' (I usually count footsteps in fours if I'm walking) - it'll probably be fast from you being stressed. Consciously start counting slower.

Sounds silly, but worked wonders for me yesterday on the way to work.

after an audition my husband likes to do something stupid and silly, like re-enact the Princess Bride in the living room........why do I always have to be Buttercup?

Took me a sec, but when I got it I was thoroughly amused.

It's a funny thing for me. I can keep my head cooler than ice all the way to an interview. I can sit in the waiting room, and not feel a thing. They call my name, I take it in stride. I sit down, and that's when it all sets in. Luckily, people tell me I work better under pressure because of my desire to suceed. Who knows, it might be the case for you ;)

I curious as to how you quoted him before he posted that answer.

Back to the topic at hand, try vigorous exercise.

When in deadly danger
When beset by doubt
Run in little circles
Wave your arms and shout!

That's pretty much my approach to dealing with situations like that. Either that or a nervous breakdown (which I haven't had. Yet, that is.)

No, honestly - really cannot give you any advice. I can be prepared as I would ever be - and still be nervous as hell (which sometimes leads to the bad test/interview/whatever brainfreeze).

I keep my fingers crossed for you, though! Good luck. ;)
