Would you eat at this restaurant?

It is a Hitler themed restaurant. I guess the owners were going for the shock value and the publicity it will generate. It shows insensitivity and callousness and crass commercial behavior.

What do u think? Will u eat there unmindful of this (if the food is good, of course)?

Oh and this is in Mumbai, India. Before somebody throws around "anti-semitism" label, I will mention that India is one of the few countries which has had no record of anti-Jewish history despite Jews living there from atleast a thousand year back (Cochin Jews).

Mumbai's ‘Hitler’ eatery angers Jews
Mumbai: A new restaurant in Mumbai, named after Adolf Hitler and promoted with posters showing the German leader and Nazi swastikas, has infuriated the country's small Jewish community.

'Hitler's Cross', which opened last week, serves up a wide range of continental fare and a big helping of controversy, thanks to a name the owners say they chose to stand out among hundreds of Mumbai eateries.

"We wanted to be different. This is one name that will stay in people's minds," owner Punit Shablok said.

"We are not promoting Hitler. But we want to tell people we are different in the way he was different."

But India's remaining Jews -- most migrated to Israel and the West over the years -- say they are outraged by the gimmick.

"This signifies a severe lack of awareness of the agony of millions of Jews caused by one man," said Jonathan Solomon, chairman of the Indian Jewish Federation, the community's umbrella organisation. "We are going to stop this deification of Hitler," he said without elaborating.

The small restaurant, its interior done out in the Nazi colours of red, white and black, also has a lounge for smoking the exotic Indian water pipe or ‘hookah.’

Posters line the road leading up to it, featuring a red swastika carved in the name of the eatery. One slogan reads: ‘From Small Bites to Mega Joys.’

A huge portrait of a stern-looking Fuehrer greets visitors at the door. The cross in the restaurant's name refers to the swastika that symbolised the Nazi regime.

"This place is not about wars or crimes, but where people come to relax and enjoy a meal," said restaurant manager Fatima Kabani, adding that they were planning to turn the eatery's name into a brand with more branches in Mumbai.

The swastika has its roots in ancient Indian Hindu tradition and remains a sacred symbol for Hindus. Nazi theorists appropriated it to bolster their central hypothesis of the Aryan origins of the German people.

It sounds horribly tacky.

To be honest, I already cringe when Russians walk around with swastikas and stuff. It's like they're blissfully unaware of their own place in that ideology.
Obviously these guys here aren't serious about it, but Indians doing the Nazi thing...it'll be a strange mix of horrible, pathetic and funny.

I predict this place being burned to the ground within a month and the owner collecting lots of insurance money.

I wonder if their food is Nazi-themed as well? I can't even imagine this.

I have a "Hitler European Tour" tee shirt, including dates, ie "April 1945, Final Show, The Bunker, Berlin"
It's meant to mock Hitler, and to mock rock'n'roll tour tee shirts. Some people don't get it, tho :(

Eat there? I'd make sure I ate there frequently enough so that if a date wasn't working out, I could go there, have the seater would greet me by name and ask me if I'd like my regular table.

I doubt it very much. I think theme restaurants are pretty tacky anyway, and this one seems to epitomise that.

I hope their motto isn't something like "the Final Solution...to your hunger!" It's bad enough as it is.

Or meals like "Peas in our time," or the "Lebensraum Liverwurst."

Do they have waiters dressing up as Hitler, with the 'stache and all? I mean, now that I think about it, it's the kind of place I'd just have to go to to see what it's like.

They try and charge me for the meal, I'd CHARGE them...with my trusty Uzi.:mp5:

For the record, I'm neither Israeli nor Jewish.

An Indian Hitler look-a-like would have to be seen to be believed.

It's very uncreative. I can think of something equally shocking, if not more so without relying on the Jewish Devil.

But then again, I'm a very weird person. :)

It's just a fucking restaurant. If the food is good, it'll get my cash. It's no more offensive than the red army themed bar I've frequented a few times.

EDIT: Just for the record, I'm not Jewish, but I am gay - one of the many groups Hitler persecuted. I think it's ridiculous that some jews think they deserve special treatment because of the holocaust. You do not have a right not to be offended. Hitler is dead, and this is just a tacky themed restaurant. Find it offensive? Don't eat there. Just don't whine about it.
