We've got a couple of left-over grilled pork chops, a couple ears of corn, maybe I'll boil some fingerling potatoes and then give them the quick-fry in olive oil with sage and rosemary. Mmm ... and salad, too.

The fresh sweet corn from the farmstands is so excellent-we have several tomatos too.
I also have the odd beers left from several six and 12 packs still on ice in a huge cooler.

Me too- its like the party goes on a little longer- My brother and his wife are coming over to "help" us finish this food. I really dont waste any food, so I am happy to have them.
Peppers, onions and sausage are even better a day later.

And we had really great watermelon too-Have you had any this season? It was locally grown- beautiful deep red, very few seeds and so sweet.

and I discovered I have blueberry bushes in the back of my property, but they dont seem to be producing-I have to prune them a certain way? They are tall and narrow as the deer have been at them since before our house was built.

Get in touch with your local agricultural extension service, usually part of the state college, they should be able to set you straight. If the bushes are really big and overgrown, you can prune out one-third of the oldest canes or stalks. Then next year to the same, and by the fourth year the bush should be renewed. You might have to wait a year or more for fruit, though. But do look it up or talk to a horticultural-type person, I've never raised berries. I've given out raspberries, but that's something different.

To me, the prep and cooking is as enjoyable as eating. And I usually try to get everyone involved. We have a great kitchen for that now-plenty of room-large counters and an island. Everyone that wants to can join in.

I especially like to get my kids involved. They are more interested in eating well when they played a part in it.

What's amusing is that I'm not much of a foody myself - I just really enjoy preparing food. Of course, it gets a bit tricky when I need to taste test things, but I'm getting the hang of that too. But when I started cooking at first, I *much* prefered the ideas and the preparation to the actual eating of the meal afterwards.

It probably also helps that certain afforementioned boyfriends are forcing me out of my self-imposed food shell and making me try new and scary things.

I don't have any kids to cook with (alas), but I have a girlfriend (of the platonic kind; again, alas) who greatly enjoys cooking with me. Her personal preferance lies with baking cakes though. I have extreme exhaustion or something (can't remember what they said I have) but anyway, I was like seeing spots lost hearing in my left ear, dizzy, ect. My doctor has prescribed sedatives and I am supposed to stay in bed until Thursday, I slept most of Monday night into Tuesday evening, and today I am just relaxing, I am supposed to take another sedative at 5pm and sleep some more and Thursday night I am "off bed rest" if my doctor thinks I have recovered.

Was a special occasion today so I just had a good meal.

Starter: Toasted french bread with champagne mushrooms fried in butter and garlic stacked on top. Topped with melting Danish blue cheese.

Main: T-bone steak and peppercorn sauce. New potatoes, green salad and fried mushroom and onion.

Dessert: Whatever is in the freezer, I ate the first two courses and think I'll wait a while before I eat again.

I just like a splash of Worstechire/teriaki/garlic brushed on each side, a little salt & pepper, then grilled or broiled only till there are grill marks.

I enjoy meat most when its simply room temperature-flank steak being my favorite. Skirt steak a close second.

A suprisingly good spice for your bloody meat of choice is Brown Sugar, apply with seasonign salt, garlic and whatever other spices you prefer (cracked peppers personally), sear to appropriate bloodiness and consume.

For dinner tonight? Most likely nothing, I feel like death at the moment, and it has a lot to do with the fact I've got about six hours of sleep in the last sixty, and I ingested well over two liters of beer last night, after a meal of incredibly spicy mexican food. I did not sleep at all last night, and I've been at work since nine o'clock this morning (right now it's a quarter past three.) After I get off work at five I've got a half hour bus ride, followed by a twenty minute walk home I'll be lucky to get onto my front yard before I pass out, let alone into my room.

ooh, I might actually have to use some Tuition money to experiment with that one.
A simple steak with pepsi will not do! It needs to be decided if Dr. Pepper is an acceptable strak marinade, or regular coka-cola. How about off brands (remember, poor college student). And then (money permitting, which it already doesn't, but whatever) We'll need to try the light sodas (Sprite, Mountain Dew etc.) And Flavored Sodas too!
Who needs na education when there's oddly marinated steaks to be had!

from here on in, we'll make it each Friday night. The kids are totally involved-puching down the dough and then topping the pies with their own choices.

Make sure you get coarse ground corn meal to spread on the stone- it makes the pies way more easy to slide out and adds that little authentic taste.
